Job Description

The Capital Projects - Laboratory Design and Integration sub-division is delivering the next generation of infrastructure to perform examinations and testing on spent nuclear fuel and irradiated materials critical capabilities that enable the enduring technical supremacy of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. Our unit, Exams Projects, is working to evaluate delivery options and continue to progress the Naval Examination Acquisition Project (NEAP)and Interim Irradiations Examinations Recapitalization (IIER). We will work closely alongside our Program stakeholders, Naval Reactors, Architect/Engineer firm, and Construction Manager to successfully set the future direction for these major systems projects.



We're looking for an experienced engineer to work as the IIER lead engineer. The successful candidate will perform the following important duties:
- Produce integrated and value-based solutions for complex, multi-faceted problems considering Project constraints, customer priorities, and stakeholder inputs
- Provide technical design support and collaborate with the Architect/Engineer to ensure design solutions are cost effective, meet Project requirements, and support the mission need.
- Develop and mentor Project team members
- Set the strategic orientation for the unit's portfolio of work
- Engage with stakeholders, Naval Reactors, and senior leadership.
- Issue supporting documents to deliver IIER critical decision 0 (CD-0).
This role is intended to provide a diverse set of leadership experiences to develop high potential engineers for future management roles.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field; or Currently an Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
Preferred Skills

- Strong teaming, leadership, and mentorship skills.
- Broad and successful technical experience, preferably including experience in hot cell examinations, radiological controls, waste handling, systems engineering, and/or major construction projects.
- Excellent Communication and Engagement Skills.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate strong working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work productively through conflict.
- Demonstrated success proactively evaluating and improving work processes.

Pay Range
$86,100.00 - $134,600.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
