AMSOIL is currently seeking a Wind - Senior Application Engineer



The Industrial Senior Applications Sales Engineer - Wind blends technical expertise with customer-facing sales support, serving as a key link between engineering and commercial teams. Focused primarily on the global Wind team, this role provides advanced applications guidance for wind turbine systems and the lubricants essential to their performance, while also supporting broader AMSOIL Industrial applications as needed. This position requires strong communication across all organizational levels and the ability to lead or support technical projects, delivering clear, accurate insights through reports, presentations, and customer interactions.


Examples of Work Performed / Essential Functions



Technical Sales & Support:



  • Support the global AMSOIL Industrial sales effort, with primary focus on wind turbine drivetrain and related renewable energy applications, by partnering with sales on business development opportunities.


  • Field questions that the sales team receives from customers and support the sales team on sales calls, representing AMSOIL Industrial from a technical perspective and educating both the sales team and customers on wind turbine applications, product specifications, product benefits, and proper lubricant application.


  • Provide post sale support for the customer, including installation support or troubleshooting issues that may develop while working with customer(s), OEM(s), service contractor(s), and AMSOIL Industrial technical support staff.


  • Assist in analyzing and interpreting customer oil sample reports.


  • Be on the Forefront of New Products and Application Needs:


  • Identify current and future customer service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual customers, as well as other individuals able to understand technical requirements.


  • Provide technical product, service, or equipment information by answering questions and requests.


  • Help develop new products and processes to expand business opportunities for AMSOIL Industrial, with primary focus on wind turbine lubrication, grease, hydraulic, and renewable energy applications.


  • Seek out new applications for existing product lines by working internally and externally to find best practices across wind turbine lubrication, grease, hydraulic, and related industrial applications.


  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.



Develop Processes and Procedures for Field Operations:



  • Oversee and/or create flushing procedures for new wind turbine platforms, gearbox platforms, and other applicable industrial equipment.


  • Determine improvements by analyzing cost benefit ratios of equipment, supplies, or service applications in customer environments, engineering or proposing changes in equipment, lubrication processes, service procedures, or use of materials or services.


  • Prepare cost estimates by studying blueprints, plans, and related customer documents, consulting with engineers, architects, and other professional and technical personnel.


  • Amend old procedures as new techniques are developed and support operations, working with both sales and engineering to implement document control and identification processes.



Field Trial Tracking and Project Management:



  • Provide framework and trial tracking for AMSOIL Industrial or customer ordered field trials.


  • Prepare sales engineering reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing sales information, engineering information, application trends, and field trial results.


  • Ensure installation of field trials are handled smoothly and samples are collected on time.


  • Partner with Product Development and Market Management in new product development and processes to expand business opportunities for AMSOIL Industrial, with primary focus on wind turbine lubrication, grease, hydraulic, and renewable energy applications.


  • Gain customer acceptance by explaining or demonstrating cost reductions, operational improvements, reliability improvements, application value, and drivetrain protection benefits.



Service and Travel:



  • Competently and professionally communicate with, interact with, sell and market to, lead/direct, and service wind turbine prospects and/or accounts, including owner/operators, OEMs, service providers, distributors, and other external wind power professionals as designated from time to time.


  • Adhere to the AMSOIL Industrial Wind Turbine Safety Orientation Program and complete the Wind Turbine Safety Orientation Checklist Form for each event requiring a wind turbine climb.


  • International travel may be required to maintain relationships with customers and vendors within those markets and to maintain growth targets annually.


  • Typical travel for this position is approximately 50% of work time. Travel may occasionally include weekends and holidays for international travel and special events.



Industry Associations and Industry Events:



  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies such as American Clean Power, CLEANPOWER, ACP Operations, Maintenance and Safety Conference, CanREA, STLE, CLS, and other applicable industry organizations to support AMSOIL Industrial sales growth globally.


  • Attend a minimum of six industry events each year as well as participate in trade show planning and attendance.



Minimum Qualifications:



Education & Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering field; degrees in Business Administration or other relevant technical/commercial disciplines may also be considered. Equivalent professional experience may substitute for formal education.


  • 5 to 10 years of experience within the wind industry, wind turbine applications, gearboxes, mainshafts, lubrication, hydraulics, field service, or other industrial technical applications development experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.


  • Additional coursework or certifications in wind energy, renewable energy systems, lubrication fundamentals, or industrial maintenance are advantageous.



Minimum Requirements



  • 3-5 years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, industrial customer support, or B2B account management.


  • Background working with industrial, energy, or mechanical systems, ideally involving rotating equipment or maintenance-driven environments.


  • Proven ability to manage customer relationships, support long sales cycles, and collaborate with crossfunctional teams.


  • Experience working alongside field technicians, operations teams, or service crews in industrial settings.


  • Strong communication skills for engaging with procurement, engineering, operations, and leadership stakeholders.


  • Ability to travel regionally or nationally (approximately 30-50%).


  • Ability to meet customer site safety requirements and obtain necessary safety certifications (e.g., GWO, OSHA, sitespecific training).



Preferred Qualifications



  • Direct experience in the wind energy industry, including work with turbine OEMs, owneroperators, or wind service providers.


  • Familiarity with wind turbine components such as gearboxes, main bearings, pitch and yaw systems, hydraulic systems, and lubrication points.


  • Experience supporting or conducting product trials, field evaluations, technical troubleshooting, or application testing.


  • Background selling or supporting lubricants, oils, greases, hydraulic fluids, or other technical consumables.


  • Demonstrated success in strategic account management, customer relationship development, or technical solution selling.


Certifications or Licenses



  • Must hold a valid US driver's license.


  • Must be able to obtain and hold a valid passport and country visas on a per need basis. Certifications in one or all of OMA I, OMA II, and CLS preferred. Expected to pursue if not currently certified/licensed.


  • Must be able to obtain and hold annually, certifications for CSE, confined space entry, OSHA approved climb certification for climbing at heights above 100 meters, MSHA, Mine Safety and Health Administration, TWIC, transportation worker identification certification, and/or others that may be required.



Internal/External relationships & Impact on Services/Operations:



Internal/External Relationships:



  • Internal: Department Director, Wind Turbine Tribologist(s), Application Engineer(s), International Distributor(s), Sales Manager(s), Strategic Account Manager(s), and Customer Support Specialists. Daily interaction with AMSOIL Industrial personnel.


  • External: Develop and maintain essential relationships with Wind turbine OEMs, owner/operators, international distributors, professional organizations, and independent service providers.



Knowledge, skills and Abilities Required:



  • Knowledge of engineering principles within mechanical, lubrication, hydraulic, grease, and/or drivetrain systems, with specific emphasis on wind turbine applications where applicable.


  • Experience with project management.


  • Knowledge of tribology principles.


  • Must possess a strong mechanical aptitude.


  • Knowledge of drive systems, lubrication systems, grease applications, hydraulic systems, and wind turbine components.


  • Adept at public speaking and presentations.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills showing a strong understanding in communicating through computer software including programs like Microsoft Office Suite, i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.


  • Proven ability to act as a trusted advisor to customers, providing value beyond product sales.


  • Strong understanding of customer service expectations, including reliability, uptime requirements, procurement processes, and field support needs within the wind industry.


  • Ability to communicate effectively with field technicians, operations managers, procurement teams, engineers, sales personnel, and senior-level decision makers.


  • Technical curiosity and willingness to learn wind turbine lubricant applications, including gearboxes, hydraulics, greases, pitch and yaw systems, and main bearing applications.


  • Ability to manage multiple customers, opportunities, priorities, and internal follow-up actions simultaneously.


  • Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.


  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions, including sales leadership, technical support, customer service, product development, marketing, operations, and supply chain.


  • Comfortable delivering presentations on customer updates, product information, account plans, and business opportunities.


  • Willingness to travel 50% of the time.


  • Ability to obtain and maintain required safety certifications, including wind turbine climb certification when applicable.


  • Ability to represent AMSOIL Industrial professionally with wind industry customers and business partners.
