Description

GAI Consultants Inc. is seeking a Senior Project Manager 2 to join our Power Delivery Engineering team. An ideal candidate's opportunities would include developing client and business relationships and supporting engineering staff, electric distribution networks, and civil engineering expertise across a diverse range of multi-discipline design and construction projects. Required skills include power delivery engineering design experience, power delivery engineering project management experience, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, team-focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems. Qualified candidates are eligible for remote work.

This position will be responsible for the coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of projects in alignment with the strategy, commitments, and goals of the company. This individual should be client-focused and a leader with highly developed communication, project management, and presentation skills. The successful candidate will facilitate client teams and assist with leading teams in developing scope of work bid documents, project schedules, and facilitate meetings for utility projects.

Competency



  • Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.
  • Knowledge of project management skills and uses of intermediate practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy. May serve as PM Coach to Task Managers and other PMs.


  • Effective communication with clients, management, peers, and subordinates. Strong verbal and written communication and organization skills are required.
  • Expertise in developing project schedules, cost budgets, and understanding and analysis of the financial data.


  • Mastery of intermediate to advanced project management financial concepts, including developing pricing, cost budget monitoring, and calculating profit. Experience with Deltek required.
  • Understanding of software needed to perform the duties described here, including Primavera P6, and Microsoft Office Suite applications and software. Experience with Primavera P6 scheduling software required.


Responsibilities:



  • Building solid relationships with Energy, Institutional, Industrial, and Manufacturing clients and internal clients within GAI's Business Sectors.
  • Leading business development pursuits, developing statements of qualifications and proposed project scopes of work, schedules, budgets, and fees.
  • Developing a solid understanding of and marketing the services GAI performs.
  • Providing design, management, and technical direction and oversight associated with on multi-discipline design and construction projects.
  • Facilitate client team meetings, including recording and publishing meeting notes.
  • Assist teams of engineers in developing the project-specific scope of work documents.
  • Assist with and coordinate teams of engineers reviewing design submittals.
  • Apply thorough broad-based knowledge of electric utility projects.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborate with internal and client subject matter experts to continuously improve the documents.
  • Keep informed of new methods and developments affecting the organization and recommend new practices or changes in emphasis of programs.
  • Assist in quality control and quality assurance of active projects, providing peer reviews and training of engineers and designers in quality control processes.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, and can develop, implement, and maintain processes for document control.
  • Mentor engineers and staff providing training assistance.
  • Manage assigned projects, including responsibility for delivering scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and profitability.
  • Coordinate and develop proposed scope, schedule, and fee for projects managed.
  • Demonstrate proficiency of fundamental project management skills and use of project management techniques and practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Work closely with Project Controls/Accounting staff to monitor and control project cost and billings to meet budget profit, analyze project performance data on an ongoing basis, and develop recovery plans as needed.
  • Serve as primary client contact for projects managed and actively win new work from both new and existing clients by building and maintaining customer relationships, monitoring future work opportunities, and communicating regularly.
  • Establish and refine engineering processes and standard operating procedures that enhance team performance, alignment, and delivery predictability.

Minimum Years of Experience



  • Minimum of 18 years of total engineering or technical experience, with at least 10 of those years serving as a Project Manager leading and directing projects or portfolios, preferably with an engineering consulting organization or similar professional.


Education



  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering or applicable technical discipline as required.
  • Advanced technical degree or MBA is strongly preferred.


Certification/Licensure



  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is preferred or desire to obtain.


Technical Responsibilities



  • Required mathematical skills are commensurate with the technical or engineering discipline practiced (e.g., engineering calculations, design, etc.)
  • Demonstrated mastery of fundamental project management financial concepts, including developing pricing, cost budget monitoring, calculating profit, etc.
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of software as needed to successfully perform the duties described here, including MS Office Suite applications and software, CAD programs, document management systems, database software, HR Systems, internet software, and reporting tools related to databases.
  • Experience with Deltek for Professional Services as a Project Management / Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Platform, including Client Relationship Management applications is preferred.


Project and Task Management



  • Approximately 40% of job duties are dedicated to project management and 10% to technical delivery.
  • Delivers scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety and profitability of all projects or portfolios managed.
  • Plans and manages multidisciplinary projects of high value with high-risk profiles or a portfolio of multiple projects.
  • Directly manages over $5 million per year of total billings and portfolios of higher value. The maximum individual project size is $5 million without prior approval of the President.
  • Projects managed are typically time-sensitive, unique and /or very complex, of significant magnitude, scope, and difficulty.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the development of project schedules, cost budgets and understanding and analysis of the financial data.
  • Works closely with Project Controls staff to monitor and control project cost and billings to meet budget profit, to analyze project and portfolio performance data on an on-going basis, and to develop recovery plans as needed.
  • Has in-depth understanding of project and/or portfolio goals, drivers, strategies, risks, and opportunities.
  • Understands the company's businesses, competing projects or portfolios, and profit impact of decisions.


Business Development Responsibilities



  • Up to 40% of job duties may be dedicated to Business Development.
  • Often serves as a primary seller/doer for a client or group and leads significant business development pursuits.
  • Acts as senior company representative to the client, in the community and with contractors.
  • Provides guidance and oversight for significant projects or a portfolio of client projects managed by multiple PMs.
  • Leads contract negotiations with clients, with assistance from senior management.
  • Engage, become a technical liaison, and expand network within industry electric grid resiliency groups.


Supervisory Responsibilities



  • Assembles and leads large project teams covering several specialties with staff from more than one office and work in several locations.
  • Serves as mentor to all levels of PMs and technical staff, as applicable.


Communication Skills



  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with and garner support from key stakeholders and staff.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports and procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and other business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.


Travel Requirements



  • Must be able to travel to GAI and client office locations as needed. Travel requirement is estimated at up to 10%.
