Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has multiple openings for a Computer Systems Engineer 2 in Berkeley, CA. Duties:
- Design, implement, test, and maintain production quality software underlying the current and next generation ESnet network, including: visualization; measurement and analysis using the Google Cloud Platform; and network inventory, configuration, and services database.
- Participate on project teams to successfully develop and complete project scope, on time and within project budgets.
- Use current development technologies and programming, independently write software from user stories, specifications and designs.
- Recommend and lead implementation and deployment efforts for small projects and/or software improvements that enhance reliability, stability, usability, performance and security.
- Troubleshoot and solve problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field followed by 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or in a related occupation.
- Alternatively, will accept a Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience in the job offered or in a related occupation.
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Python, Javascript, or Java;
- Working with cloud technologies; Automation tools and frameworks;
- Time series data collection and analysis;
- Statistics and statistical modelling;
- Typescript, React.js, d3.js, node.js, PostgreSQL, Go, Rust, or C/C++;
- Design and operation of Elasticsearch Clusters, PostgreSQL, and Clickhouse;
- Google Cloud Platform (Provisioning and operating containers, VMs, and other resources in GCP or Apache Beam) or Amazon Web Services;
- UNIX/Linux development environment;
- APIs such as SOAP and REST;
- Git and Github

- Appointment type: This is a full-time, career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
- Salary range: The expected salary for this position is $131,760 - $161,064 depending upon the candidate's skills, knowledge, and abilities. This includes education, certifications, and years of experience.

- Work modality: This position may telework. Individuals on a telework schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
