Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director provides clinical leadership and consulting on all patient care units, including program development and clinical issues, and ensures all clinical programs are developed and implemented with evidence-based best practices. This position acts as the leader of social service activities, clinical programs, clinical therapists, activity therapists, utilization of review specialists and discharge planners in the acute setting and exercises management and administrative skills used to determine and meet the goals of the hospital. Duties include creating and facilitating clinical programming, educating staff on policies and procedures, conducting clinical care outcome studies, and serving as the primary liaison to outside agencies for discharge planning, abuse reporting and continuum of care functions while operating as a supervisor and consultant in all other facilities, providing education and process improvement suggestions.

  • Clinical Leadership: Provide clinical leadership and consultation, ensuring high-quality patient care based on evidence-based best practices.
  • Program Development: Research, develop, and implement evidence-based best practices for clinical services, including therapeutic programming.
  • Staff Development: Design and coordinate training programs for staff, including psychoeducational and psychotherapy groups.
  • Quality Improvement: Identify areas for improvement, implement changes to meet client needs, and reduce risks.
  • Collaboration: Build productive relationships with key organizations and stakeholders.
  • Personnel Management: Supervise staff, provide training, and manage performance and employee relations.
  • Financial Acumen: Understand financial operations and contribute to meeting performance goals.
  • Communication and Reporting: Effectively communicate policies, procedures, and findings to staff, and report to Quality Control.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on current mental health laws and their application to organizational programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs as liaison between Program and Hospital; communicating information and needs appropriately
  • Supports Hospital missions, goals and objectives
  • Provides leadership and direction in accordance with Hospital guidelines to Clinical Directors and Assistant Directors.
  • Provides clinical supervision for nursing, counseling, patient support and administrative staff
  • Develops, in coordination with assigned VP, Clinical Practice, implements and updates all policies and procedures for the department.
  • In coordination with the Hospital, ensures the Clinical department meets and maintains all federal, state, local and accrediting bodies' regulations and standards
  • Participates in assessing and reassessing the Clinical department needs of the patient
  • Supervises all patient care and sets guidelines for accurately reporting and recording of patient symptoms, reactions, and progress
  • Develop processes to audit and coordinate ongoing education to ensure all staff are trained on proper documentation of all aspects of the patient's care
  • Recruits, interviews, and select qualified staff for the Clinical department.
  • Provides for professional growth and development of staff through identification of needs, development of individual training plans and participation in training programs

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Responsible for leading a team of clinical professionals in their efforts to administer excellent patient care.
  • Knowledge of short term/stabilization mental health treatment.
  • Ensures cohesive functioning of the clinical service line.
  • Responsive to the outcomes of clinical care by participating in the development and implementation of improvement solutions.

  • Strategically design and implement a whole-patient, treatment-based approach while realizing business goals and priorities.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to exercise sound judgement when making decisions.
  • Understands and analyzes variances and initiates appropriate plans for management; effectively utilizes data and outcomes for decision making.
  • Monitors and assess staff morale to support and atmosphere of teamwork and continuity.
  • Ensure that staffing is adequate and adjust staffing to match census when necessary.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations including The Joint Commission/CMS/OSHA standards.
  • Supports a team-based approach in the treatment of patients.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with hospital staff, payers, families, professionals, paraprofessionals, and members of the community.
  • Ability to maintain high ethical standards and adhere to HIPAA privacy rules.
  • Knowledge of patient census management including staffing ratios and caseloads.
  • Good understanding of budget and resources planning in addition to evaluation procedures and methods.
  • Management skills which demonstrate the ability to proactively identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Plans effectively for department needs by working with administration.
  • Organizational, time management, problem solving, crisis management and team building skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate Degree
  • Clinical Background in social work, clinical counseling, or nursing highly preferred.
  • CPR Certification
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in healthcare leadership
  • Experience in acute care and mental health setting required
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in advanced clinical/management practice.

License: Appropriate state licensure in mental health. Preference will be given to candidates holding a LCSW licensure or greater.
