General Summary

The Cellular Biologist I will report to a Ph.D.-level scientist and work alongside an experienced team of cellular biologists, specialists, and other Ph.D.-level scientists with expertise in 2D/3D cell culture and High Content Screening (HCS). This role offers a strong environment to learn new technologies and contribute directly to the research process while providing scientific support to the JAX research community.

Duties include, but are not limited to: project planning, experimental design, methodology development, conducting and modifying procedures, data collection and analysis, contributing to publications and reports, and communication and instruction. We're looking for someone who can demonstrate strong focus, attention to detail, and manipulative (hands-on) skill.

This role may include training others within or outside the assigned work area, and may require flexible shifts - including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays - depending on project and lab demands.

Key Responsibilities

Perform and maintain cell cultures across multiple platforms in support of the lab's core activities. Work with the reporting scientist on assay development, cell culture setup, and automation for cell screening. Manage cell culture work for assay development and screening services to meet project needs.

Document results; implement published protocols; identify, troubleshoot, and analyze issues in routine testing; refine techniques and procedures; adjust quality control measures as needed.

Plan and monitor resources for the cell screening component of the lab, including inventory control, space/equipment coordination, and expenditure tracking.

Share research findings through demonstration and instruction.

Assist in training others within or outside the assigned work area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a related discipline, with 0-2 years of directly related laboratory experience.

  • Cell culture skills required, including 2D and 3D culture for HCS platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop research protocols.

  • Proven success managing multiple concurrent assignments or multi-faceted projects.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work productively and professionally with all team members.

  • Solid understanding of and demonstrated history of safe laboratory practices.

  • Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and proactive.

  • Ability to prepare technical documents and presentations.

  • Team player with a positive, flexible attitude.

  • Able to work flexible shifts (evenings/weekends/holidays).

  • Regular, reliable, and consistent attendance.

  • Experience with human clinical sample handling is a plus.

  • Experience with laboratory automation is a plus.

Pay Range: $20.55 - $34.41 per hour, depending upon experience
