Summary We are currently hiring for a Medical Record Assistant to join BlueCross BlueShield of SC. In this role as a Medical Record Assistant, you will be responsible for the maintenance and processing of requests of medical records, provide support to the nurse review staff, provide data to management that is necessary for monitoring all incoming claims and/or medical records, and database maintenance and new claim receipt are critical functions of this position. Location:

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday, from 7:00 am: - 4:00pm and will be fully remote in South Carolina after an on-site training period.

What You'll Do:

  • Receives new claims, provides status, and routes all claims to appropriate nurse for review.

  • Orders all requested medical information using the appropriate system as requested by the nurse. Closes claims and loads any instructions to the processor.

  • Receives and date stamps all medical information. May assign image numbers and scans for on-line viewing by nurse.

  • Updates information in the appropriate system for all records when requested/received. Assists with priority requests and research.

  • Maintains database and appropriate claims system along with various logs.

  • Reactivates claims when records are received for claims that were previously closed for records. May image and load information with issue and disposition of claim.

  • Prepares routine correspondence and prepares reports to nursing staff and management utilizing various systems and PC applications. Performs workflow duties to include copying, filing, maintaining supplies, distributing/researching mail, responding to telephone inquiries (from members and providers), scheduling of meetings, and other general clerical/administrative functions. Assists with training of new employees and the cross training of workers.

To Qualify for This Position, You'll Need the Following:

  • Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Required Work Experience: 2 years administrative support, insurance related field, or combination of both.

  • Required Skills and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service and organizational skills.

  • Good judgment and and analytical skills.

  • Proficiency in spelling, grammar, punctuation. Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
