DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is an independent agency led by the elected State Treasurer and one of the largest state treasuries in the country, serving as custodian of more than $150 billion. Treasury plays a critical role in state government operations, acting as the custodian, investor, and disburser of funds for nearly all state agencies. Treasury also offers a wide range of programs and services to Pennsylvania families, including the PA 529 College and Career Savings Program; the PA ABLE Savings Program for people with disabilities; and our work to return more than $4 billion of Unclaimed Property to its rightful owners. This position supports daily financial operations that help maintain accurate records for the Commonwealth. Work involves processing payments, assisting with wires, and responding to agency questions with clear and helpful information. As a Fiscal Technician I, you will perform the following duties:

  • Payment Processing: Handle payments according to established procedures and ensure accuracy in daily work
  • Wire Management: Manage morning and afternoon wire tasks that support financial operations
  • Ledger Assistance: Support clearing of general ledger journals to maintain organized financial records
  • Customer Response: Reply to agency emails with accurate information and strong customer service
  • Record Updates: Perform deletes and closes of payments and assist with tasks that support daily operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year as a Fiscal Assistant or three years of work involving the maintenance of fiscal or financial records, including one year of responsible work which involves the application of accounting or fiscal principles and practices; and graduation from high school; or
  • One year of experience in maintaining and reviewing fiscal records and an Associate degree in accounting or business administration; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have experience using Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, web-based utilities or the ability to learn relevant software.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience using PeopleSoft
  • Experience receiving customer inquiries and answering general questions
  • Experience applying relevant accounting practices to complete various accounting transactions such as the posting of accounting entries to general ledger accounts
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently on assignments
