In this role, the successful candidate Oversee the Pharmacy Department to ensure that organizational pharmaceutical needs are effectively met. Provides supervision to the pharmacy leadership team. Responsible for all operational and distributive aspects of pharmacy services. Acts as a liaison between physicians, nursing, pharmacy staff, and hospital administration. Provides direction for the development and implementation of existing and new programs and services within the Department and as established by the NYU Langone Health System. Job Responsibilities:
- Develops departmental goals and objectives. Establishes and implements policies and procedures for departmental operations in alignment with NYU Langone Health System.
- Recommends action on appointments, termination, promotion, salary, and other related personnel matters. Ensures the preparation of all staffing records, statistics, and payroll in a timely manner.
- Assists clinical leadership in developing policy regarding drug utilization and administration.
- Works with clinical teams around patient educational programs to enhance understanding of medications and side effects.
- Works with clinical leadership and nursing to ensure appropriate medication types and quantities in Omnicells to meet the needs of the patients and clinical teams.
- Ensures representation of Pharmacy on NYU Langone Health committees on which a pharmacy advisor is indicated.
- Identify the need where appropriate, for expansion and improvement of pharmacy services in keeping with the corresponding growth and development of NYULH- Brooklyn.
- Develops innovative programs designed to improve patient safety and programs designed to improve staff efficiency.
- Reviews dispensing and compounding to ensure that policies are complied with.
- Establishes departmental goals and sets objectives to reach them by utilizing audit results, quality assurance reports, and observation. Prepares reports on projected and actual impact of policies and keeps records of accomplishments and failures of programs. Isolates issues on complex problems for systematic evaluation.
- Monitors new staff programs to maintain a quality process using verifiable data as a basis for planning.
- Participates in providing experiential training for Pharmacy Residents and Students.
- Implements new programs and departmental policies. Identifies the need for new programs in keeping with the Pharmacy Mission and makes recommendations to the Senior Leadership. Recommend new systems/methods in relation to staffing which are cost effective.
- Studies the applicability of new technology and makes recommendations to Senior Leadership regarding this potential application.
- Monitors results of employees tests and competencies to assess comprehension of departmental policies and procedures and implements corrective plans.
- Utilizes audit results, quality assurance reports, and PSI reports to improve the quality and safety of service and recommend new policies or procedures
- Coordinate collaboration with other Departments and external entities
- Coordinate Pharmacy Emergency Planning and Response
- Evaluate Regulatory readiness and the impact on current operations. Assists with compliance with the rules and regulations promulgated by State, Federal, and other regulatory agencies.
- Works with other Pharmacy management personnel to plan, coordinate, and maintain the delivery systems (including daily drug deliveries, floor stock, infusions, cassettes, emergency deliveries, etc.) properly and ensures deliveries are completed as scheduled.
- Responsible for all aspects of medication control and management of all patient safety aspects related to medication management and compliance with the rules and regulationspromulgatedby State, Federal, and other regulatory agencies
- Budget management including an annual plan for pharmaceutical cost savings and inventory control ensuring that department remains fiscally sound.
- Establishes a system to monitor and improve safety and accuracy in the preparing, dispensing, and/or compounding of drugs, chemicals, and sterile products.
- Establishes specifications for procurement of all approved drugs, chemicals, and biologicals for the practice of pharmacy.
- Works with Sourcing to negotiate competitive contracts with drug distributors to reduce unnecessary cost.
- Assumes the role of Supervising Pharmacist(Pharmacist in Charge)ofthe pharmacy,maintaininglegal authority and accountability, including power of attorney for the pharmacy and controlled substances, and ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and recordkeeping requirements.
- Serves as the Vaccine Coordinator for the NYU Langone Brooklyn Hospital,ensuringcompliance forthe Vaccines for ChildrenProgramrequirements
- Supports theHospitals FamilyHealth Centers, Clinics,Shelters,and Schools with pharmacy services. Collaborates with Family Health Center leadership for medication distribution, safety, regulatory compliance, budgeting, purchasing, policy, and all other operational pharmacy needs.
- Serves as program director of theNY Overdoseprogram ensuring distribution, reporting of naloxone,and testing kits.
- Determinesthe department's personnel needs and recommends changes to Senior Management.
- Ensure that employees understand their responsibilities and standards of performance. Including guidance for improving performance to the employee and defines the expected outcome and time of completion of assignments to employees. Schedules and conduct staff meetings to address problems and institutes follow up to ensure resolution. Ensures that schedules are prepared accurately and promptly to maintain appropriate levels of staffing. Brings to the Supervisors attention areas needing improvement as soon as they are recognized with a plan and time frame for correction. Recognizes the need to counsel subordinates and performs timely counseling, in accordance with Personnel policies. Communicates to the Pharmacy leadership, their responsibilities and standards of performance and coach leaders in areas which require improvement and/or development. Develops procedures/processes to ensure that the departments objectives are represented in leadership work plans and daily activities. Approaches performance review process constructively and utilizes the review process for coaching and development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- To qualify you must have a Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree (Pharm. D.) in Pharmacy, M.S. degree, or advanced degree in a related pharmaceutical field in place of an advanced degree.
- B.S. degree with 10 years of supervisory experience in an academic teaching hospital.
- NYS Pharmacy license.
- Minimum 5 years in a progressive pharmaceutical management position.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, leadership qualities..
Required Licenses: Pharmacist License-NYS Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in related pharmaceutical field Advanced management degree 10 years experience in progressive pharmaceutical management position. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
