Job Description

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

This role serves as the primary support and trusted partner to the U.S. Controller, providing day-to-day leadership across financial reporting, governance, controls, accounting, audit, regulatory, and strategic finance initiatives for the Bank Subsidiaries. The Director is responsible for ensuring the integrity, completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting while executing the broader Bank Subsidiaries and U.S. Controller agenda. This position acts as a direct liaison to the U.S. Controller organization, maintaining alignment with enterprise accounting policies, financial control standards, ICFR governance requirements, data governance expectations, and escalation protocols. Additionally, the Director drives collaboration, communication, and innovation across the department to promote talent development and enhance overall skillsets within the U.S. Finance department.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Serve as the principal deputy and strategic partner supporting the U.S. Controller based on expanded initiatives on the IHC Bank Subsidiaries.
  • Provide leadership continuity and decision support during periods of absence, transition, or increased organizational demand.
  • Function as the primary coordination point between for US Bank Subsidiaries and U.S. Controller and RBC Head Office organization.
  • Develop enterprise-level controllership, governance, and leadership capabilities required to support the visibility and advancement of the US Banks Subsidiaries.
  • Create a sustainable succession pipeline to support the financial controller's function and strengthen the long-term controllership bench across the U.S. region.
  • Expected to operate with the judgment, leadership presence, and enterprise mindset in supporting and in delivering the strategic and operational objectives of the U.S. Controller function.
  • Provided exposure to executive governance forums, regulatory interactions, audit oversight, strategic initiatives, and enterprise accounting matters to develop readiness for future controllership leadership positions.
  • Lead and oversee the multi-locational team responsible for the accounting functions.
  • Day-to-day oversight of month/quarter/year-end close processes, ensuring the operational efficiency where the books are closed in accordance with mandated timelines and issues are escalated effectively to senior management during the process.
  • Lead the financial reporting function ensuring accurate and timely preparation of required financial statements and disclosures.
  • Partner closely across the U.S. Controller teams to ensure timely sharing of information and support is provided.
  • Maintain a strong partnership with all Head Office Financial Control functions to support a high volume of reporting, controls (SOX, RCSAs etc.), and disclosure requirements.
  • Key point of contact for all internal and external audit relationships and responsible for all aspects of the annual external audit. Ensure timely close of all outstanding audit points.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of all financial records and continuously seek to strengthen or optimize the control environment.
  • Ensure accuracy according to both US GAAP and IFRS standards.
  • Participate in structuring complex transactions as well as new product initiatives, while partnering with key functional groups (i.e. Legal, Operations, Compliance, Tax, Product Control and Accounting Policies).
  • Support the U.S. Controller in the investigation and assessment of new Bank initiatives.
  • Drive finance transformation initiatives to integrate finance ERP systems, automation, analytics and optimizing finance operating model and processes.
  • Drive efficiency through AI initiatives and collaboration across the organization.
  • Ensure that employees bridge and understand RBC Enterprise leadership model and strategy/vision, as well as support and reinforce targeted behaviors that contribute to RBC goals.
  • Provide focus and clarity in establishing individual goals, driving performance management, supporting career development, actively developing a succession plan, and rewarding robust performance.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must have:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience within a banking/financial services environment, possessing a comprehensive understanding of banking products in addition to knowledge across Banking Products, FDICIA, Capital Markets, and Wealth Management.
  • Degree(s) in Accounting or Finance, CPA preferred.
  • In-depth experience and knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS accounting requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead and drive change and efficiencies across a multi-platform department.
  • Strong understanding of regional and global P&L reporting.

Nice-to-have:

  • Strong collaboration and relationship management skills.
  • Experience working in the Finance department of a multi-platform FBO.
  • Ability to navigate and excel in a matrix management environment.

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $160,000 - $260,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
