What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a Quality Engineer for Cell Engineering to
lead quality assurance activities towards ensuring products meet the highest
standards of product quality and reliability. The ideal candidate will have a
proven track record of successfully transitioning new product designs from
concept into production while maintaining the highest standards of quality and
efficiency. The battery cell is one of the most complex and challenging
components designed and manufactured at Tesla. This is an exciting opportunity
to contribute to Tesla's world-class manufacturing facilities. Tesla is a

subsystem of an incredibly exciting product.

What You'll Do
  • Work collaboratively with Product Design, Equipment
    Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Controls, Production, Maintenance,
    Controls, and other cross functional teams as the cell quality expert to ensure
    production lines are designed and operated to produce high quality and
    performance cells
  • Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to
    drive continuous improvement to manufacturing processes
  • Lead identification, root cause analysis, and resolution
    using 8D methodology and other structured problem-solving tools to resolve
    manufacturing quality issues
  • Track quality performance metrics, prioritize top issues,
    and drive continuous improvement activities with cross-functional team
  • Lead FMEA activities to ensure design and manufacturing
    issues are identified and risks are mitigated
  • Collaborate cross functionally and with NPI to initiate and
    implement product, process, equipment, and other relevant changes to improve
    manufacturability and field performance via Process Change Approval (PCA)
  • Drive cross-functional projects with manufacturing, supply
    chain, production quality, and research teams to test existing and determine
    new product specifications and tolerances
  • Develop product/process control plans, inspection standards,
    testing plans and instructions, work instructions and manufacturing validation
    plans to ensure manufacturing capability and product reliability
  • Manage non-conforming cell process flows via containments
    and evaluate suspect materials while working closely with internal and external
    teams to identify disposition and resolve root cause

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
    Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in quality engineering or a related
    field, with a proven track record of success in leading quality assurance
    efforts
  • Specific training and demonstrated success in applying
    structured problem-solving tools (8D, DMAIC, 5Why, Fishbone (Ishikawa) Diagram,
    Measurement System Analysis, Process Capability Analysis, DoE, etc.)
  • Strong data analysis and visualization skills (Tableau, JMP,
    Minitab, etc.)
  • Experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing is
    highly desired
  • Experience transitioning products from prototype to
    production
  • Experience introducing new equipment and new processes into
    a production environment
  • Experience with broad variety of measurement and inspection
    techniques
  • Knowledge of data analysis languages (SQL, Python, R,
    MATLAB, etc.)

    Expected Compensation
    $84,000 - $156,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
