What to Expect
The Displays team is seeking a Display Firmware Engineer to support the development and qualification of display module for Tesla's vehicle systems. This role will involve working on display module development at the component, design and system levels. The individual will act as a focal point of contact between the design studio, software team, system architecture team, global supply management team, quality team, reliability team, factory, and display suppliers, managing all activities required to deliver displays from initial concept to production in Tesla vehicles.
What You'll Do
- Develop firmware for LCD/OLED applications at system level and component level, including TCON and touch microcontrollers
- Develop engineering specifications for display firmware and electronic system; perform testing and review results from display vendors, module vendors, and cross-functional teams at Tesla to ensure performance specifications are met
- Develop hardware and software solutions to run display and touch validation testing at scale
- Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate off-the-shelf display and touch drivers and develop specifications for custom silicon
- Analyze fleet-level data to identify display software-related concerns; debug system-level and component-level failures, identify the root cause and implement improvements
- Perform display testing for all features and functions, and review results from display vendors, module vendors, and cross-functional teams at Tesla to ensure performance specifications are met
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams for design, mechanical engineering, firmware, electrical engineering, touch technology, and other areas of expertise
- Identify all open engineering issues and drive suppliers to resolve them promptly, ensuring project timelines are met
- Ensure display deliverables are met for engineering builds and initial production ramp-up
- Address issues arising from the initial production ramp and field returns related to displays
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Hands on embedded systems experience including prototyping, component selection, communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART) bring-up, PCBA and firmware design, debugging, system validation
- Excellent programming skills for embedded software and automation testing, with knowledge of C, C++, Python, Bash, Linux
- Experience with reviewing PCB schematics and component datasheets to influence system design
- Experience with delivering products from concept to production ramp and post-SOP support
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with excellent project management, communication, and teamwork abilities
- Familiar with lab equipment for electrical and embedded systems validation, such as logic analyzers and oscilloscopes
- Familiar with display system and touch performance evaluation, display technologies, display module construction, process development, and display electronics systems
- Familiar with touch sensor driving methods and hardware/firmware architecture for touch controller applications

Expected Compensation
$100,000 - $282,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
