Overview

As a cornerstone of the clinic, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) partners with physicians to ensure high-quality patient care and operational efficiency. By accurately gathering vital signs, reconciling medications, and keeping the daily schedule on track, the CMA allows providers to focus entirely on patient health.


Qualifications

Work Experience & Education
  • Work Experience: Patient care (or relevant clinical) experience preferred.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required).
Certifications (Must hold at least one of the following)
  • CMA: Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • RMA: Registered Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • RMA: Registered Medical Assistant - American Allied Health (AAH)
  • RMA: Registered Medical Assistant - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
  • CCMA: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant - National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • NRCMA: Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant - National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • NCCT: Certified Medical Assistant - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Additional Requirements
  • BLS: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire - American Heart Association (AHA).

Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Rooming Patients: Collect pertinent information including vitals, chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and perform medication reconciliation upon arrival.
  • Medication Management: Administer medications and assist with prescription refills per department protocols. Call medications into pharmacies, notify patients, and document actions in the EMR.
  • Point of Care: Maintain department-specific competencies for POC testing, equipment handling, and specialty training.
Administrative & Care Coordination
  • Chart Preparation: Prepare charts in advance of visits to ensure all previously ordered testing is completed.
  • Prior Authorizations: Obtain prior authorizations through insurance companies and coordinate referrals.
  • Telephone Interactions: Communicate with patients, families, pharmacies, and other healthcare facilities as directed.
Patient Education & Facility Maintenance
  • Patient Instructions: Provide patients with written instructions for procedures, medications, or follow-up at the direction of the provider.
  • Education: Retrieve and provide condition-specific education from approved websites, internal resources, or printed materials.
  • Clinic Upkeep: Stock supplies and clean rooms per current infection control/COVID protocols.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
