| Summary |
The Division of Health and Sciences at Howard Community College (
HCC) is seeking applicants for an outstanding full-time faculty position in the discipline of Earth Sciences. The faculty member will be expected to teach and/or coordinate lecture and lab courses primarily in Earth Sciences (Geology, Oceanography, Environmental Geology, and Earth and Space Science). |

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Rank and salary will be determined by the Vice President of Academic Affairs (Faculty Salary Schedule).
Applicants are required to have a Master's degree or higher in Geology or a related Earth Science field and will have at least three years of college teaching experience. Applicants should have experience successfully working with a variety of college student populations including traditional and nontraditional students (including high school JumpStart participants) and those with a variety of diverse backgrounds. Applicants should have experience with a range of teaching approaches including the use of digital resources,
LMS use, and online teaching. The faculty member will fulfill a variety of college responsibilities including developing curriculum, engaging and advising students, collecting outcomes assessment and service on college committees. Experience in developing lab and field activities is required. The ideal candidate demonstrates a commitment to teaching excellence, Instructional Excellence, and integrates active learning strategies appropriately into their teaching. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in professional engagement with students outside of the classroom. Examples include, but are not limited to, serving as a faculty advisor for a student organization or serving as a faculty mentor for student undergraduate research. |

Essential requirements:
* Minimum of a Master's degree in Geology or related Earth Science discipline
* A minimum of three years of college teaching experience in Geology and/or Earth Sciences
* Demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the college level
* Experience in development of lab and field activities
* Ability to teach using a variety of approaches, including online teaching
* Ability to develop and maintain updated
LMS course sites and online gradebooks for all classes
* Effective interpersonal skills
* Ability to teach morning, afternoon, and evening classes and varying schedules by semester in addition to weekend field trips
Preferred requirements:
* Ability to teach a variety of physical science courses (geology, oceanography, earth and space science)
* Experience in course or program learning outcomes assessment |

| Physical Demand Summary |
Faculty members work in a professional academic environment that includes classrooms, laboratories, offices, and virtual learning platforms. The position requires regular interaction with students, colleagues, administrators, and community partners. Faculty are expected to maintain a flexible schedule that may include daytime, evening, weekend, and online instruction to meet institutional needs.
Work involves prolonged periods of standing while teaching, as well as extended use of computers for course preparation, grading, student advising, and administrative responsibilities. Faculty may be required to attend meetings, professional development activities, college events, and commencement ceremonies. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively, manage multiple priorities, and work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced educational setting.

HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The

Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The
