A Transportation Services Dispatcher coordinates and monitors daily vehicle and valet operations to ensure timely, safe, and efficient service across campus locations. They communicate with shuttle drivers, valet attendants, supervisors, and customers to manage service requests, resolve issues, and respond to changes or emergencies in real time using technology. The role requires strong multitasking, communication, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Department Description:

UCSF Department of Transportation manages transit and parking services for the UCSF students, faculty, patients, visitors and employees. Transit operations include fixed routes and on-demand services supporting nearly 2.5 million annual riders. Parking operations include over 25 parking garages and lots across the City, with over 7,500 spaces. The parking team also manages an extensive permit program, parking enforcement, citation adjudication, and other parking-related services. The Department promotes clean and sustainable transportation modes, including walking, bicycling, carpool/vanpool, car-sharing, and electric scooter-sharing. The Department has over 190 positions with an annual operating budget of over $45 million.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School graduation and four years of related administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exercises a high degree of discretion in handling confidential information
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle stressful situations in a courteous, knowledgeable, professional manner and to interact effectively with public, faculty, staff, and co-workers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-tasking and prioritization
  • Proven ability to problem-solve
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates strong political awareness and sound judgment in navigating complex organizational dynamics and sensitive situations.
  • Dispatcher certification-May include courses on radio communication, emergency response protocols, and transportation logistics.
  • ADA Compliance Training - Demonstrates knowledge of accessibility regulations and best practices for serving passengers with disabilities.
