Position Overview
The Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) provides comprehensive behavioral health services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, counseling, and crisis intervention for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders. This role serves as a subject matter expert in behavioral health and collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support continuity of care, treatment monitoring, and patient wellness. The Behavioral Health Professional may provide individual and group therapy, behavioral interventions, psychoeducation, and referrals for higher levels of care as clinically appropriate. This position requires strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to work within structured healthcare or residential treatment environments.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct behavioral health assessments, evaluations, and diagnostic interviews for patients with mental health and substance use concerns.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and clinical best practices.
- Provide individual, group, and crisis counseling services using evidence-based therapeutic modalities.
- Identify patients requiring acute or inpatient behavioral health services and coordinate referrals as appropriate.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, case managers, and support staff to ensure continuity of care and treatment compliance.
- Document patient interactions, treatment progress, and clinical recommendations in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Provide psychoeducation related to mental health, substance use, coping strategies, and behavioral management.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute clinical expertise regarding behavioral health treatment and care planning.
- Support behavioral health programming and therapeutic interventions within structured treatment environments.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all applicable ethical, legal, and professional standards.
Job Requirements
- Active, current, and unrestricted professional license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Psychologist in the applicable state of practice.
- Strong knowledge of behavioral health assessment, diagnosis, crisis intervention, and treatment planning.
- Ability to provide therapeutic services to individuals experiencing mental health and substance use disorders.
- Experience working with patients with serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, or substance use concerns preferred.
- Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic techniques and behavioral health interventions.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation standards.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and sound clinical judgment in high-pressure environments.
Education
- For LCSW candidates: Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program.
- For Psychologist candidates: Doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited program.
Work Experience
- Minimum of one year of post-licensure clinical experience in behavioral health, counseling, psychology, or social work.
- Experience in correctional, residential healthcare, inpatient, or community behavioral health settings preferred.
- Experience implementing behavioral health treatment programs or therapeutic community models preferred.
