Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join us as a Reinsurance Senior Financial Reporting Analyst!

About the role

This role is a Senior Financial Reporting Analyst on the Finance - Reinsurance Reporting team, focused on reinsurance accounting and financial analysis for life and annuity products. The position requires strong technical expertise in reinsurance structures (including Modco and funds withheld) and supports the delivery of accurate financial reporting and disclosures. The role also partners cross-functionally and plays a key part in implementing new reinsurance transactions in a dynamic environment.

What you will do



  • Support research and documentation of technical accounting matters related to reinsurance under GAAP, U.S. Statutory, and Bermuda Statutory frameworks
  • Prepare analyses of accounting treatments for new and complex transactions, including impacts to financial statements and operational processes
  • Coordinate with external auditors as needed to support reviews and discussions
  • Lead key components of the reinsurance accounting close process, including:



    • Preparing and reviewing journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and reporting schedules
    • Analyzing variances and delivering management reports and key financial outputs



  • Demonstrate deep expertise in assigned areas while maintaining a strong understanding of related processes and cross-functional impacts
  • Drive ad hoc initiatives and special projects, including:



    • Supporting the implementation of new reinsurance treaties
    • Identifying and executing process improvements and operational efficiencies



  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Actuarial, Tax, Legal, and other partners to evaluate and operationalize new reinsurance arrangements

Compensation

Salary Range: $79,900 - $133,200 base plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Who You Are:



  • High School Diploma is required, plus a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of experience in reinsurance accounting of life and annuity insurance and reinsurance, with exposure to complex reinsurance arrangements (such as modco, coinsurance with funds withheld, etc.) is preferred
  • Proficiency in the fundamentals of accounting principles for life insurance and annuity products
  • CPA or CPA-eligible, preferred
  • Experience in public accounting, including preparation, review, and audit of financial statements and related footnote disclosures
  • Goal-oriented with a track record of task and project completion
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, as the need arises (quarter and year-ends, ad hoc projects)
  • Proven ability to interact effectively and communicate complex reinsurance accounting guidelines and policies in an understandable manner to various levels of management, staff, and auditors
  • High expectations for themselves, with an irresistible urge to exceed them
  • Ability to perform assignments independently and adapt to changing priorities
  • Creativity, problem solving, and decision-making skills
