Summary
The Manufacturing Technician supports the production of military-grade flight simulators and training systems by fabricating highprecision structural assemblies, motion platforms, and support components. This role is essential in ensuring CAE USA delivers durable, missioncritical simulation equipment to U.S. and allied defense customers. Work is performed in a lowvolume, highcomplexity environment requiring attention to detail, adherence to quality standards, and collaboration with crossfunctional engineering and assembly teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform highquality MIG and TIG welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum used in simulator frames, motion bases, instructor stations, and support structures.
  • Interpret detailed mechanical drawings, fabrication prints, GD&T, and weld symbols to build components to tight tolerances required for military simulation systems.
  • Fit, align, tack, and weld large-scale assemblies, including fullmotion platforms, cockpit modules, and structural frames.
  • Fabricate brackets, platforms, enclosures, and precision assemblies used in mechanical, hydraulic, and electromechanical subsystems.
  • Use layout tools, fixtures, and jigs to ensure accurate assembly and proper loadbearing structure.
  • Conduct welding prep, grinding, cutting, and finishing to meet CAE USA quality standards.
  • Inspect welds visually and with measurement tools to verify structural integrity and compliance.
  • Support prototype builds, engineering change requests, and custom military configurations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, machinists, mechanical technicians, and program teams to resolve fabrication issues.
  • Follow all safety protocols, shop procedures, and DoD-compliant manufacturing practices.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High school diploma at minimum with 2-5+ years of welding or structural fabrication experience; experience in aerospace, defense, or simulator manufacturing preferred.
  • Proficiency with MIG and TIG welding processes; ability to pass a weld test.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and detailed fabrication prints.
  • Experience welding and assembling structural tubing, heavygauge steel, and precision components.
  • Strong attention to detail with consistent, highquality weld workmanship.
  • Comfort working with grinders, saws, drill presses, plasma cutters, and other standard fabrication tools.
  • Must be able to travel CONUS and to international sites if needed.
  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior work on fullmotion or fixedbase simulator structures (military or commercial).
  • Familiarity with hydraulic, electromechanical, or 6DOF motion systems.
  • Experience in a DoD or ITARregulated manufacturing environment.
  • Basic mechanical assembly skills to support integration activities.

Security Responsibilities

Mustcomplywithall company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.
  • Must be eligible to work in ITARregulated environments.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a subassembly shop, final assemblylabsand customer sites. All areas are climatecontrolled,however there are times when individuals will need to work outside in the elements.

  • Wet or humid conditions (non-weather) 1/3 to none of the time.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts over 2/3 of the time.
  • Work in high, precarious places 1/3 to none of the time.
  • Fumes or airborne particles 2/3 of the time.
  • Toxic or caustic chemicals 1/3 to none of the time.
  • Outdoor weather conditions 1/3 to none of the time.
  • Risk of electrical shock 1/3 to none of the time.
  • Noise level is loud. (Example: manufacturing area)
  • Talk or hear 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less, Jaeger 1 of .50 mm letters @ 14" or better).
  • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more, Snellen Chart 20/50, or better).
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
  • Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

Physical Demands

  • Climb or balance on an approved safety ladder under 1/3 of the time.
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel over 2/3 of the time.
  • Reach with hands and arms over 2/3 of the time.
  • Must possess manual dexterity and excellent hand eye coordination.
  • Ability to stand or sit over 1/3 of the time or walk under 2/3 of the time.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl under 1/3 of the time.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds over 2/3 of the time.
  • Ability to lift 40-50 pounds and work in various positions as required for large assemblies.
