THE POSITION

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking a strategic and innovative Licensed Professional Geologist to support vital work in Pennsylvania's oil and gas regulatory program. This role allows you to apply advanced geological knowledge to protect natural resources and ensure safe subsurface operations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the Bureau of Oil and Gas Planning and Program Management by providing geological expertise for statewide regulatory and technical work. Within this role, you will ensure for the safe and effective oversight of subsurface activities and support the development of policies, guidance, and program improvements. As a Licensed Professional Geologist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Policy Guidance: Prepare, interpret, and update geological policies, procedures, manuals, and technical standards
  • Regulatory Development: Assist with drafting rules, reviewing legislation, and coordinating regulatory updates with internal and external partners
  • Technical Training: Provide training on subsurface geological topics to staff and support updates to manuals and guidance documents
  • Program Support: Assist with the development and evaluation of the Underground Injection Control program and related activities
  • Technical Review: Analyze reports, proposals, and subsurface data to ensure compliance with approved procedures
  • Public and Agency Coordination: Respond to inquiries, support Right-to-Know requests, and represent the bureau at meetings and hearings

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the approved headquarters location. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.   • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $69,203.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
