Job Description:

The Senior Fellow for Campus AI Strategy will lead the development of a comprehensive, campus-wide strategy for the responsible, effective, and innovative use of artificial intelligence in support of Trinity's academic and operational mission. This role serves as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and a campus integrator, aligning emerging AI opportunities with university priorities, governance frameworks, and operational capabilities.

The Senior Fellow will convene stakeholders across the campus for lectures and workshops on AI topics, translate complex and rapidly evolving AI developments into actionable strategies, and produce a clear roadmap for implementation, policy alignment, and sustainable governance.

JOB DUTIES

Strategy Development and Planning

  • Lead the creation of a campus-wide AI strategy, including vision, guiding principles, and priority focus areas aligned with university goals.
  • Identify and recommend short- and medium-term objectives, with clearly defined outcomes and success measures.
  • Develop a roadmap for implementation, including sequencing, dependencies, and resource implications.
  • Align AI strategy with broader university priorities, including teaching and learning, research, and operational effectiveness.

Stakeholder Engagement and Governance

  • Convene and facilitate cross-functional working groups (faculty, staff, students, IT, legal, library, and other key partners).
  • Foster broad and meaningful participation across academic and administrative units to ensure that diverse perspectives inform strategy development.
  • Establish or recommend governance structures to support decision-making, prioritization, and ongoing oversight of AI initiatives.
  • Synthesize stakeholder input into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership.

Teaching, Learning, and Professional Development

  • Identify campus needs and design frameworks related to AI literacy, pedagogy, and workforce readiness.
  • Design frameworks for faculty and staff development that support effective and responsible use of AI.
  • Partner with relevant units (e.g., Collaborative, IT, HR) to pilot, assess, and scale training initiatives.
  • Promote effective, ethical, and pedagogically sound applications of AI in teaching, learning, and academic support.

Policy Review and Development

  • Review existing university policies related to AI (e.g., academic integrity, data governance, privacy, intellectual property).
  • Recommend policy updates or draft new policies, guidelines, and standards as needed.
  • Ensure alignment with emerging legal, regulatory, and accreditation expectations.
  • Support the development of ethical frameworks and responsible AI practices across the university.

Environmental Scan and Benchmarking

  • Monitor developments in higher education, industry, and policy related to AI.
  • Benchmark peer and aspirant institutions to identify leading practices and areas of opportunity.
  • Assess risks, opportunities, and potential institutional impact of emerging AI technologies.
  • Advise senior leadership on strategic positioning and investment opportunities.

Communication and Reporting

  • Provide regular updates and strategic guidance to the Provost and senior leadership.
  • Prepare interim and final reports, including strategic recommendations, implementation plans, and progress updates.
  • Translate technical concepts into clear, accessible communication for a broad campus audience.
  • Support transparent communication regarding process, progress, and outcomes to build campus understanding and engagement.

DELIVERABLES

  • Comprehensive Campus AI Strategy (vision, principles, priorities).
  • Policy recommendations and draft language, where appropriate.
  • Implementation roadmap with timelines, responsible units, and resource considerations.
  • Recommendations for sustainable governance and oversight, closely aligned with Trinity's Digital Campus Management (DCM) framework.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Cooperates and collaborates with faculty, staff, students, and administrators in the spirit of teamwork, collegiality, and shared governance.
  • Interacts with professionalism, sound judgment, integrity, and diplomacy while providing leadership and guidance during complex or time-sensitive situations.
  • Complies with all University policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of institutional priorities and strategic initiatives.

EDUCATION

Required:

  • Advanced degree in relevant field (e.g., communication, higher education, public policy, technology, data/AI-related discipline).

EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional strategic initiatives within higher education or similarly complex organizations.
  • Strong understanding of artificial intelligence, including generative AI, and its practical, ethical, and operational applications.
  • Experience advising senior leaders and translating emerging technologies into actionable institutional strategy.
  • Experience facilitating stakeholder engagement, consensus-building, and strategic planning across diverse constituent groups.
  • Experience developing recommendations, reports, frameworks, or policies related to emerging technologies, digital transformation, or organizational change.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in higher education academic, administrative, or shared governance environments.
  • Experience developing or implementing AI-related governance frameworks, policies, or professional development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with legal, regulatory, privacy, intellectual property, and accreditation considerations related to AI use in higher education.
  • Experience benchmarking peer institutions and evaluating emerging technology trends to inform strategic planning.
  • Experience communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

DECISION MAKING

Plan and perform highly complex or technical work where no procedures or standard methods are available.

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY

Monitors budget activities but no responsibility for budget and expenditure authority.
