PRIMARY PURPOSE


CNA is hiring for an Executive Legal Advisor to join the Office of General Counsel (OGC). This role is responsible for leading and supporting high level company-wide projects for the Sr. VP and General Counsel, including; advising on legal, legislative and national security matters; and establishing strategic objectives. The role will also provide strategic leadership for critical and extremely complex work and establish long range operational objectives and assignments in collaboration with senior management.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND/OR DUTIES


1. Provide expert legal advice on intellectual property, employment, export controls, ethics, foreign corrupt practices act, government contracts, classification and security, human subjects research, and corporate governance.



2. Conduct research and analysis in support of CNA projects involving legal, legislative and national security and maritime law expertise.



3. Provide in-house legal review of contracts considered and entered into by CNA and associated insurance matters. Make recommendations regarding contract language, contract terms, contract consideration, & contract provisions to protect the interest of CNA and accomplish the contract's intended purpose; preparing, drafting, reviewing and advising on a wide variety of contract that address the legal aspects of business relationships.



4. Lead special projects as assigned by the Sr. VP and General Counsel.



5. Draft and review legal documents and correspondence. Work with outside counsel on litigation matters.



6. Represent CNA at conferences and prepare project reports and briefings associated with conference attendance.



7. Liaise with officials and organizations - both domestic and international - from government, academic, and corporate sectors, as well as other key research institutes and not-for-profits, in support of CNA initiatives.



8. Advise Sr VP and General Counsel on planning, pursuit and success related to projects associated with proven area(s) of expertise.



9. Perform other duties as assigned.



JOB REQUIREMENTS


1. Education: Bachelor's degree in related field required. J.D. required.



2. Experience: Must have a minimum of 12 years' experience in field of compliance and experience dealing with senior government officials, including Members of Congress.



3. Skills: Must have strong interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills. Must have knowledge of best thinkers and policy practitioners in areas of expertise.



4. Other: Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
