GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: This position is an individual contributor role which implements and monitors EHS programs by working closely with the organization's operating divisions. Utilizing a consultative approach, ensures safety compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements for assigned operations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manage the Radiation Safety program.
- Manage the Chemical Hygiene program.
- Maintain open communication with technical staff, supervisors, and senior management to foster a cooperative and constructive relationship enhancing employee compliance with the Safety program and encouraging a strong safety culture.
- Assist with ensuring facilities are following all Federal and State EHS regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.)
- Serve on the Emergency Response Team and assists with ERT employee training and program management.
Other Job Functions
- Plan, manage and perform biological safety.
- Plan, manage and perform Hazardous Waste Management.
- Plan, manage and perform Respiratory protection.
- Plan, manage and perform lab safety inspections.
- Conduct regular facility safety inspections and internal audits; recommend corrective measures for facility issues.
- Train/orient new employees regarding safety.
- Maintain written safety plans.
- Provide problem solving/emergency response/spill cleanup.
- Maintain/distribute material safety data sheets.
- Provide Fire Safety/maintain fire extinguishers.
- Perform other duties as may be required by supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum Qualifications
- BS in a field of science or Health Safety
- 5+ years of safety experience
- Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Must be able to build trust and confidence with all stakeholders to successfully establish the desired safety-oriented culture.
- Experience representing an organization to regulatory agencies.
WORK ENVIROMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work Environment & Conditions This position involves work in an office and laboratory environment and could require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including:
- Safety glasses
- Shoe covers
- Hearing protection (varies based on tasks)
- Composite toe safety shoes
- Respirator
Physical Demands In performing the work for this position, the supervisor must be able to:
- Perform work utilizing a computer for extended periods of time.
- Sit for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area.
- Stand for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area.
- Climb ladders and stairs in performing the work.
- Walk for reasonable distances in performing the work,
- Travel overnight as needed on an occasional basis.
