THE POSITION

Become a valued member of the Department of Human Services, Central Regional Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) as a Clerical Assistant 2 and help keep essential operations moving. This role offers a meaningful way to support child care services across the region. You will bring energy and attention to detail to a team that depends on strong clerical support. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides essential clerical support that helps the office carry out its child care licensing and approval responsibilities. As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Document Preparation: Prepare and review materials used for child care certification and related correspondence
  • Information Support: Communicate basic information to callers and route more complex inquiries to appropriate staff
  • Schedule Coordination: Maintain calendars, provider meeting schedules, and orientation logistics for staff and applicants
  • Record Maintenance: Organize and update files, forms, inventories, and shared digital folders for office use
  • Data Entry: Enter new applications, verify accuracy, and manage certificate renewal processes
  • Office Assistance: Support general office operations including mail handling, photocopying, and logging complaint information

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 1-hour lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements (NSRs):
  • This position requires keyboarding skills to meet standards for speed and accuracy.
