Position Summary

The Parker Aerospace Toolmaker (Model Shop) performs a variety of complex manual and CNC machining jobs, including tool modification and rework, and works independently with minimum guidance within a team environment.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work with design and manufacturing engineers to create/maintain functional assembly tooling, inspection gages, and holding/hydraulic test fixtures.

  2. Set up, construct, modify, maintain, and repair complex and high precision machine tools.

  3. Design, develop, and fabricate holding fixtures and production aids to produce tooling and fixtures at precise tolerances.

  4. Follow verbal and written instructions, engineering drawings, part-prints, blueprints, and rough sketches to complete assigned task.

  5. Analyze and form-fit tooling functions and ensure alignment of requirements on both tooling and customers' blueprints (may require additional trigonometry and other shop mathematics to minimize performance issues with the tooling design and functionality).

  6. Lay out complex parts for the project and make necessary complex calculations (requiring extensive use of shop mathematics).

  7. Set up, program, and operate all tool room machines, including OD and surface grinders, manual mills and lathes, 4-axis CNC mills, hones, MIG, TIG, and oxy acetylene welders (EDM experience preferred, but not required).

  8. Actively contribute to lean initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions for areas of improvement in all assembly, test, and fabrication areas; effectively apply lean concepts to the work area.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Extensive working knowledge of precise tolerances and inspection gages.

  2. Experience with shop mathematics, 2D draft site drawings, and Catia 3D models.

  3. Extensive working knowledge of rotary and compound angles; sine plates; OD/ID threading, drilling, and tapping; EDM heat conditions; CNC machining paths; OD/ID honing & lapping; tooling material types (understanding of linear thermal expansion coefficients are a plus).

  4. Experience with EdgeCam programming.

  5. Extensive working knowledge of GD&T.

  6. Ability to inspect all parts with minimal assistance using a variety of inspection gages (e.g., calipers, micrometers, dial bore gages, profilometers, indicators, height stands/Cadillac gages, etc.).

  7. Ability to multitask effectively.

  8. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
