Your Role on the Team

As a seasoned experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of UC, campus, and unit academic practices, policies, and procedures, resolves moderate to complex academic HR-related issues affecting a broad range of academic titles in imaginative and practical ways.

Under general direction, incumbent manages all academic functions in the Department of Plastic Surgery. This includes equal opportunity/affirmative action issues, academic recruitment, appointments, merit increases, promotions, sabbaticals, grievances, layoffs and union issues, employee relations, compensation, training and development, Advisor to the Chair, Chief Administrative Officer (Department Administrator), and faculty with regard to Academic Personnel concerns. Responsible for academic appointments and yearly renewals of all full-time and part-time faculty.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of UC Academic Personnel policies and procedures.
  • High level writing skills to compose professional reports, correspondence, job descriptions, policies and procedures, and other documents.
  • Demonstrated skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices and procedures to: define the problem or objective; identify relevant concerns or factors; identify patterns, tendencies and relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; recognize alternatives and their implications.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with campus administrators, faculty, staff and students from a variety of ethnic, social and educational backgrounds and to provide information, identify problems and develop solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience working with confidential information and using sensitivity, tact and discretion in internal and external communications. Demonstrated skill to assess priorities in order to complete work in a timely manner in an environment of deadline constraints, competing priorities and heavy and changing workload.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and success to interpret, comprehend, and analyze various complex policies and procedures in the area of Academic Personnel.
  • Demonstrated experience with data collection techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction
  • Demonstrated skill and proficiency to effectively utilize computerized business systems and software applications including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Visio.
  • Ability to develop and implement training programs and make presentations to large and small groups. Strong organizational and teamwork skills. Working knowledge of California laws and regulations pertaining to medical licensure and certificates of registration, Working knowledge of the UC Health Sciences Compensation Plan.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3-5 yearsyears of experience in relevant field

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of UC Human Resources and labor relations policies and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of Equal Opportunity and Diversity initiatives as they relate to the University of California.
  • Extensive knowledge of requirements for hiring international employees, including the USCIS visa request process at the University of California.
  • Extensive knowledge of UCI campus departments and central administrative offices, their services, roles and responsibilities, for consultation if necessary.
