Job Description:

The Environmental Health and Safety Engineer supports day-to-day implementation of environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs within a semiconductor manufacturing environment. Working under the guidance of more senior EHS team members, this role helps maintain compliance with applicable environmental, health and safety requirements and internal standards, supports routine monitoring and documentation, and assists with projects that reduce EHS risk and improve sustainable manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Environmental Compliance & Programs

  • Support site compliance activities for federal, state, and local environmental requirements (e.g., air, water, wastewater, hazardous waste, chemical management) through routine inspections, tracking, and documentation.

  • Support hazardous waste management, including container labeling/accumulation requirements, satellite accumulation areas, waste determinations/profiles, vendor pickups, and documentation; respond to spills/releases by following site procedures, assisting with containment/cleanup coordination, and completing required reporting and follow-up.

  • Assist with maintaining environmental programs relevant to semiconductor manufacturing, including Hazardous waste management, Air permitting, Wastewater and industrial pretreatment programs, and Stormwater pollution prevention.

  • Support environmental audits, inspections, and routine reporting activities; help prepare information for submittals and participate in agency interactions with guidance as needed.

  • Support site sustainability initiatives by assisting with data tracking and documentation and participating in projects across energy, water, waste, recycling, and emissions in alignment with corporate sustainability and ESG goals.

Semiconductor Manufacturing Support

  • Provide environmental support to fab operations, process engineering, facilities, and equipment teams by answering routine questions and escalating complex issues to senior staff.

  • Assist with reviewing new processes, chemical introductions, and equipment installations for environmental considerations and compliance requirements, with oversight as needed.

  • Support management of hazardous materials and specialty gases common to semiconductor manufacturing (e.g., acids, solvents, dopant gases) by helping maintain inventories, waste profiles, and operational controls.

Risk Assessment & Problem Solving

  • Identify routine environmental risks and recommend practical mitigation measures; partner with senior staff on higher-risk or complex issues.

  • Support environmental reviews and incident/non-compliance investigations by gathering facts, completing documentation, and helping track corrective actions.

  • Assist with collecting and analyzing environmental performance data and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Documentation & Training

  • Develop and update environmental procedures, work instructions, and documentation for assigned areas, using established templates and guidance.

  • Support delivery of environmental training to operations, engineering, and facilities teams (e.g., onboarding and annual refreshers).

  • Support internal EHS management systems activities (e.g., ISO 14001 or equivalent), including recordkeeping and internal audit preparation.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with Facilities, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Supply Chain, and Corporate EHS to complete assigned environmental tasks and projects.

  • Participate in site sustainability goals and waste reduction initiatives.

  • Contribute environmental input to projects and operational changes, coordinating with senior team members as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 or other Environmental Management Systems (EMS) concepts.

  • Exposure to air permitting, wastewater systems, or hazardous waste programs in manufacturing (semiconductor experience a plus).

  • HAZWOPER training (e.g., 24-hour or 40-hour) or ability to obtain; familiarity with spill response, hazardous waste handling, and contaminated materials management.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CHMM) are a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.

  • Experience in manufacturing, electronics, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or other regulated industrial environments; demonstrated ability to follow procedures and work collaboratively on environmental issues.

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing and cleanroom environment with required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Exposure to chemicals and industrial systems consistent with semiconductor fabrication operations.

  • On-site presence required to support fab and facilities operations.

Pay Range:

$60,600.00 - $79,590.00

Pay Range Explained:

This role in Beaverton, Oregon pays between $60,600.00 and $79,590.00 per year, depending on your experience, skills, and background. Pay may vary in other locations. We offer a full benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, a 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), and paid time off. You'll also be eligible for quarterly profit-sharing bonuses and flexible spending or savings accounts.
