Position Summary

This role sits at the intersection of Investor Relations (IR) and Corporate Development (CD), supporting both external investor communications and strategic transaction activity. The position plays a key role in supporting development of materials for executive and board-level engagement, analyzing industry and financial trends, and supporting mergers & acquisitions (M&A) and corporate venture capital (CVC) initiatives through valuation, modeling, and due diligence.

The role requires strong financial and analytical capabilities, the ability to synthesize complex information into clear messaging, and the agility to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment with frequent interaction with senior leadership.

Responsibilities

Investor Relations

  • Support preparation of executive-level materials, including quarterly earnings presentations, analyst meetings, investor conferences, and Board updates

  • Analyze and summarize key industry trends, regulatory developments, and peer company disclosures for senior management

  • Track and evaluate stock ownership, investor sentiment, and peer positioning; support investor targeting efforts

  • Respond to information requests in a timely and accurate manner

  • Develop clear, concise messaging to communicate complex financial and strategic topics to external and internal audiences

Corporate Development

  • Support the creation and maintenance of financial models, including summarizing valuations using Discounted Cash Flow, comparable transactions, and trading multiples

  • Evaluate strategic transactions by forecasting impacts to earnings, cash flow, and credit metrics

  • Identify key value drivers and conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses

  • Support M&A and CVC activities, including opportunity assessment, financial analysis, and due diligence

  • Conduct research to benchmark assumptions, validate inputs, and analyze market and industry dynamics

  • Assist in preparation of materials for executive decision-making, transaction approvals, and Board presentations

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external advisors (investment banks, legal counsel, accounting firms) throughout transaction processes

Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or related discipline

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in finance, corporate development, investor relations, investment banking, or related fields

Desired Qualifications
  • Progress toward or completion of CPA, CFA, or MBA

  • Experience in accounting, financial modeling, valuation, and transaction analysis

  • Experience in regulated utility or energy sector

  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, with a high level of professionalism

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with demonstrated ability to create high-quality presentation materials for senior leadership

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
