Role Overview

Nippon Sanso Matheson is looking for an experienced Analytical Method Development Chemist to drive the development and implementation of industry standards and novel test methods for the Electronics/Specialty Gas Division Analytical Laboratory. In addition, this position may require management of analytical chemists in production and R&D. This analytical laboratory supports routine and non-routine analytical testing for quality, R&D, and other business units within Matheson. Metals analysis and gas phase analysis at ultra-trace levels is routinely conducted and new methods and combination of methods will be developed to meet increasing demands from customers. Direct management of analytical resources along with development of analytical programs are a requirement of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new analytical methods in specialty and electronic gases and mixture of such gases.
  • Combine analytical techniques to increase sensitivity and selectivity of the analyte species to be measured.
  • Ensure developed methods meet all required customer, safety, and industry standards.

* Provide customer facing support for new and existing analytical methods and data in support of existing and new products from Matheson.

* Collaborate with Matheson partners, customers, and technical consortia in support of new product development by implementing new and novel analytical methods and instrumentation.

* Manage and resolve new customer complaints and requests for assistance as it pertains to analytical methods, data and inquires.

  • Support the selection, purchasing, installation of analytical instrumentation and other sample preparation associated equipment
  • Implement method improvements over time based on learnings from routine analysis, best practices, test failures, and customer requests
  • Develop and validate test methods to meet accuracy, precision, robustness, specificity, linearity, detection limit, and any other requirements
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex instruments and methods in an organized and well documented manner including assisting with developing preventative maintenance practices
  • Lead cross-functional discussions to define test method performance criteria and business requirements
  • Provide critical technical support to a team managing the day-to-day operations of a high-through put analytical laboratory
  • Serve as a leader in maintaining and improving safety in the lab and in the work process
  • Author test methods documents and associated lab standard operating procedures to be consistently performed by lab technicians of various technical backgrounds and capabilities
  • Train and certify lab staff to perform to associated testing practices to method requirements
  • Support lab management in the implementation of best laboratory practices for incoming, process, and final product testing to provide timely and consistent testing services for internal and external customers

Knowledge and Skills

  • Previous hands-on experience with, ICP-MS, IC, GC, GC/MS, FTIR, CRDS, XRF and/or other analytical/metrological testing instrumentation
  • Knowledge of standard industry practices for method development, transfer, and validation
  • Experience and good skills in technical writing and documentation with attention to detail in documents being written.
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles
  • Previous technical writing experience, including authoring test method documentation
  • Ability to remain positive and professional in a high-pressure environment
  • Strong analytical problem solving, organizational, and documentation skills



Education and Experience

  • Bachelors of Science (BS) in Chemistry or related scientific field with 10+ years or advanced degree such and (MS) or (PhD) with 5+ years of analytical or metrological method development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop test methods utilizing multiple pieces of instrumentation listed in the Knowledge and Skills section
  • Demonstrated ability to combine instruments to lower detection limits or increase selectivity of the instruments.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques and solve complex analytical problems
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure while pushing projects to completion with strict time lines
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects of various priorities
  • Experience with method development, validation, and transfer in a quality environment
  • Experience with a wide range of instrumentation software, Microsoft Office Suite, Minitab, and other statistical software
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management software systems (LIMS)

Compensation: $120-130k DOE
