Overview

Maintain guest rooms and hotel areas to ensure a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming experience for guests, associates, and vendors.

At Marriott La Jolla, Room Attendants play a critical role in delivering our service promise of Wonderful Hospitality, always. This position is responsible not only for cleanliness, but also for creating an environment that makes guests feel comfortable, cared for, and confident in the quality of their stay.

Success in this role requires attention to detail, consistency, time management, professionalism, and teamwork in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following are specific contributions that must be developed during the training program in order to successfully complete the program and be placed in a hotel with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Clean bathtubs, toilets, sinks, walls, mirrors, tiles, counters, and floor surfaces using cloths, mops, sponges, brushes, and cleaning agents.
  • Follow established cleaning procedures, safety standards, and instructions for proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Strip and make beds, replace linens, and ensure beds are properly presented according to hotel standards.
  • Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, drawers, shelves, windows, and all guest room surfaces thoroughly.
  • Vacuum guest rooms and corridors as assigned and remove trash and debris.
  • Replenish guest amenities, linens, towels, and room supplies according to hotel standards.
  • Visually inspect rooms for cleanliness, maintenance concerns, presentation standards, and guest readiness prior to releasing the room.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of housekeeping carts, storage areas, and assigned work areas.
  • Communicate maintenance concerns, room status updates, and operational issues promptly to supervisors.
  • Support team operations and assist coworkers as needed to help achieve departmental goals and service expectations.
  • Maintain productivity, urgency, and attention to detail while managing daily room assignments.
  • Comply with attendance expectations and maintain schedule flexibility based on operational needs, including weekends and holidays.
  • Perform any other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Prior housekeeping or hotel cleaning experience preferred.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and presentation standards in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to scrub and clean surfaces, extend arms overhead, bend, stoop, and work in confined spaces with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safe handling procedures preferred.
  • Ability to push and/or pull carts and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport supplies and linens throughout the shift with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be willing to support coworkers and contribute positively to the team environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences including supervisors, coworkers, and guests.

Operational Expectations

  • Maintain guest room quality and cleanliness standards consistently throughout the shift.
  • Follow established housekeeping procedures and productivity expectations.
  • Report room status accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain professionalism and guest service standards in all interactions.
  • Support department initiatives focused on cleanliness, efficiency, teamwork, and guest satisfaction.
