The Buyer/Planner II manages the full procurement and
production planning lifecycle for assigned commodities and work centers. This
mid-level role owns production scheduling, outside processing (OSP)
coordination, raw material sourcing, and tooling procurement - ensuring
materials and capacity are available to meet customer delivery commitments at
competitive cost.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Scheduling:
Develop and maintain master production schedules (MPS), translating MRP output into work orders and purchase orders.
Monitor schedule adherence, resolve conflicts, and expedite as needed to protect on-time delivery.
Represent supply chain in daily/weekly production and S&OP review meetings.
Outside Processing (OSP)
Management:
Own the OSP cycle - select vendors, issue POs, coordinate routing/logistics, and track turnaround against schedule.
Evaluate OSP supplier performance on quality, delivery, and cost; negotiate pricing and lead times.
Resolve nonconformances in partnership with Quality, initiating corrective action requests as required.
Raw Material Quoting &
Ordering:
Source and procure metals, composites, fasteners, and hardware; issue RFQs and analyze competitive bids.
Maintain inventory health by managing min/max, safety stock, and reorder parameters within the ERP system.
Track commodity trends and communicate cost risks or savings opportunities to management.
Tool Planning:
Coordinate tooling needs (cutting tools, fixtures, gauges) with engineering and manufacturing to align with production schedules.
Manage tooling POs and inventory records; support cost reduction through life monitoring and vendor consolidation.
General:
Own the full PO lifecycle: creation, acknowledgment, changes, receiving, and invoice reconciliation.
Maintain accurate ERP data (lead times, costs, vendor info) and contribute to CI initiatives targeting cost and cycle time.
This role is required to be on-site 5 days at the Gardena, CA location.
Qualifications
Required
3-6 years of buyer/planner experience in a manufacturing environment (aerospace, defense, or precision machining preferred).
Hands-on MRP/ERP experience (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Infor, or similar); intermediate-to-advanced Excel skills.
Demonstrated experience managing OSP suppliers and raw material commodity purchasing.
Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills; ability to manage competing priorities.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or Industrial Engineering (equivalent experience considered).
APICS CPIM or CSCP certification; ISM CPP or CPSM a plus.
Familiarity with AS9100/ISO 9001 quality standards and tooling procurement.
Compensation
In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the expected pay range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000.
Compensation can vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for extra incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses.
