Summary:

The Medical Director is a board-certified Clinical Geneticist with extensive expertise in pediatric genomic medicine and the strategic vision to lead a nationally recognized, newly established Pediatric Precision Health Center. The Medical Director serves as the lead for precision medicine implementation across Cook Children's, integrating clinical care, genomic governance, and strategic program development. This physician will play a central leadership role in implementing large-scale genome-informed care and leading industry sponsored clinical trials for disease-modifying therapies-helping build one of the most advanced pediatric precision medicine programs in the nation. The Medical Director will work closely with Dr. Lal, the Assistant Vice President and Executive Scientist for the Pediatric Precision Health Program, to integrate clinical genetics into system-wide precision medicine initiatives. The role demands exceptional leadership and mentorship skills to guide genetic counselors and interdisciplinary teams in delivering high-quality, personalized care.

Experience

  • 2 years of post-graduate clinical practice providing direct patient care is required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in medical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient education, with strong commitment to evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and compassionate care delivery.

Education

  • MD or DO from an accredited institution is required.

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency (Pediatrics or combined) and Medical Genetics & Genomics fellowship is required.

License, Registration, and/or Certification:

  • Current Physician licensed by the Texas Medical Board or eligible for Texas medical licensure by the Texas Medical Board is required.

  • Board certified/eligible by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
