Responsibilities

The Revenue Cycle Medical Records Supervisor is responsible for planning and directing the activities of the Compliance and Medical Records Team.

Key Performance Responsibilities:

  • Recommend and implement policies and methods to ensure use of accurate, efficient systems for filing, retrieving and delivering medical records.
  • Actively participate in implementation and ongoing optimization of electronic health records.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws, standards and regulations affecting medical records and health information systems and processes for the integrated health system, including those of HIPAA, third party payers, and The Joint Commission.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security practices ensuring confidentiality.
  • Provide training to staff related to medical records topics ensuring accurate and timely documentation and release of information.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of data to Revenue Cycle leadership.
  • Develop and update the Standard Operating Procedures for the Medical Records Team.
  • Provide support in handling Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) for Newport Healthcare.
  • Lead the handling of subpoenas, risk assessments, insurance audits and internal and external medical records requests.
  • Delegate workload, monitor productivity and help meet team's service level agreement.
  • Analyze trends, identify root causes and recommend process improvement.
  • Directly supervise Newport Healthcare Revenue Cycle Compliance and Medical Records staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, License Requirements:

  • This position requires knowledge of health information management practices which can be gained through appropriate education and reflected by applicable credentials RHIA, RHIT, CPMA, CPC. Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least two years of Medical Records leadership experience.
  • Experience with inpatient and outpatient mental health programs preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Supervisory skills are required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other supervisors and department leaders, including the General Counsel and Patient Advocate.
  • Able to assist department staff in the completion of duties, when needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral are required.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and execute multiple projects or activities.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • High level of discretion and professionalism.
  • Leadership ability and coachability.
  • Possess general knowledge of electronic health records.
