Job Summary

The Academic HR Analyst 3 is a senior-level HR professional supporting the Basic Sciences Administrative cluster through expert management of academic personnel, human resources, labor relations, and payroll functions. This role oversees the full lifecycle of academic personnel actions, including recruitment, appointments, onboarding, leaves, employee relations, and separations.

Serving as a trusted advisor to leadership, the Academic HR Analyst 3 provides expert interpretation and application of School of Medicine, campus, and systemwide Academic Personnel Manual (APM) policies. The position advises on complex HR matters, labor relations issues, and faculty compensation with a strong focus on equity, compliance, and best practices.

Operating with a high degree of independence, this role partners closely with the HR Supervisor, Chief Administrative Officer, and departmental leadership to support strategic decision-making, ensure policy compliance, and promote effective academic personnel operations across the cluster.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and/or certification if required for the position

  • Bachelor's degree and/or relevant work experience
  • Intermediate/advanced experience in Academic Personnel
  • At least two years of relevant HR experience
  • Experience working with faculty on various personnel-related actions
  • Experience analyzing academic personnel policies and processes to advise others and participate in assessing business processes
  • Experience working as part of a team that develops and delivers effective solutions
  • Experience using analytical skills to research and interpret data and policy, contribute to solutions, forecast the impact of potential actions, develop logical conclusions, and/or recommend solutions
  • Experience coordinating large volumes of work; managing detailed projects with conflicting priorities and competing deadlines; and establishing goals and workload priorities
  • Experience and/or skills to use, but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, internet, email, databases, accounting, payroll, and human resources systems; design custom databases, produce reports and queries using various programs
  • Experience writing summaries, proposals, correspondence, and other communications with skills to edit copy for correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Skills to analyze options and solve problems independently on assigned projects while utilizing available resources to complete work as assigned efficiently; skills and ability to develop creative solutions to general problems.
  • Skills and knowledge to interpret policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with HR/Academic Personnel and/or Employee Relations related issues
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to interact tactfully with diplomacy and sensitivity with a diverse group of people via all forms of communication
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to communicate effectively with team members and work cooperatively with others, as well as participate, contribute ideas, set goals, tolerate confusion, and support and implement decisions
  • Ability to independently coordinate a variety of tasks and functions; work around frequent interruptions; organize workload, and set changing priorities
  • Anticipate and provide schedule changes; work under pressure; and maintain composure under heavy workloads and conflicting priorities in an effective manner
  • Demonstrated written communication skills, using appropriate grammar, spelling, and punctuation to correspond with various individuals and agencies
  • Knowledge and ability to work with a variety of software programs
  • Experience using PC's and MAC computers
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with UC systems, such as UCPath, Handshake, Cognos, MyInfoVault, AggieService, UC Recruit, iGlobal, GradHub, APHID, AggieExpense, AggieEnterprise, etc.
  • Familiarity with APM, UC policies, procedures, and bargaining agreements

Department Overview

The School of Medicine Basic Sciences Administrative cluster provides administrative multiple Basic Science departments. The mission of these departments is to conduct innovative research, engage in high-level service, and provide excellent educational opportunities and mentoring to students, postdoctoral fellows, and residents. Collaboration and fearless exploration of new ideas are crucial to achieving this mission. Education is provided at many levels, including through highly-ranked courses. Departmental academic operations are conducted on both the Sacramento and Davis campuses, with research facilities located on both campuses. Combined, these units serve roughly 80 faculty members who generate more than $19M in research awards and $16M in non-research expenditures (FY24). Work Environment

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco-free campus effective January 1, 2014.
