Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is looking for a dedicated Orthopedic Technician to join our team. This role will be Part-Time (20 hours/week), Day Shift, Monday-Friday (varying 2 days, 10-hour shifts), 8:30am - 7:00 pm

Orthopedic Technician Responsibilities:

The Orthopedic Technician communicates effectively with patients, families, medical staff, care team members, students, supervisors, and outside contacts. Completes administrative and other responsibilities in support of the facility as assigned by the supervisor. Demonstrates and provides expertise to the professional staff in the care/management of patients, as directed by physicians and/or requested by staff. Maintains Orthopedic equipment and supplies inventory by ensuring that equipment is kept clean, in proper working order and that supplies are maintained at appropriate par levels. Provides direct patient care and documents care under the direction of physicians for inpatients/outpatients.

  • Maintains an Orthopedic Technician log of equipment dispersed and charges entered. Responds to requests promptly and gives an estimated time regarding when the intervention will occur.

  • Showcases the ability to apply sequential compression devices, arterial-venous impulses, continuous passive motion machines, overbed frames, and other orthopedic patient equipment as directed by physicians.

  • Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians in Orthopedic procedures according to facility needs (e.g. halo application and/or adjustment, casting, external fixators, inserting skeletal pins).

  • Demonstrates the ability to fit and adjust braces and other orthopedic supplies (e.g. knee range of motion brace, cervical collar, Lenard boot, etc.) as directed by the needs of the facility.

  • Develops/maintains a listing of all orthopedic equipment, supplies, appliances, and devices used within the area of responsibility.

  • Provides patient care as directed by the physician and per the needs of the facility (e.g. crutch walk training, basic foot care, removal of pins, and simple hardware).

  • Utilizes an ability to assemble, apply, and maintain traction in addition to applying casts and assisting physicians in the application of casts.

  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School or GED
  • Experience: Patient care experience
  • Certification: BLS from the American Heart Association required upon start.
