The primary function of this position is to serve as Academic Advisor for undergraduate students and serve as a principal student resource, admissions manager, and recruiter for the for the Urbana Regional Program at the UIC College of Nursing (CON).

Duties & Responsibilities:

Advising
  • Advises prospective and current Undergraduate Urbana Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Graduate Advanced Generalist Master of Science-Graduate Entry, Registered Nurse-Bachelor of Science, and Doctor of Nursing Practice students, including newly admitted undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provides academic counseling.
  • Directs student enrollment for each semester, including processing course permits, completing, and routing concurrent registration forms, and working with faculty on registration questions or issues.
  • Facilitates course withdrawals, adds, drops, leave of absence, course approvals, and other academic-related actions.
  • Maintains updated advising guides and consults with faculty on advising.
  • Coordinates activities related to international student issues.
  • Maintains intent to graduate list.
  • Manages academic file system.
  • Facilitates student retention by assisting students to solve program/university-related issues, e.g., encumbrances, tuition issues, etc.; facilitation of campus resources for CON students (Office of Admissions and Records, Student Accounts, etc.); working with faculty/staff in the identification of appropriate services for students at all levels.
  • Completes transcript audits for graduation.

New Student Activity Coordination
  • Enters student data, conducts data analysis, and prepares student reports.
  • Monitors and manages data within electronic systems.
  • Oversees preparation of graduate and undergraduate new student files.
  • Organizes and conducts graduate and undergraduate orientation sessions.
  • Provides initial academic advice to newly admitted undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Oversees initial immunization, background checks, and drug screens and ensures data are entered in the appropriate database.
  • Enters initial program plan for undergraduates and graduate students into software.
  • Answers questions about and locates advanced placement tests for new undergraduates.

Admissions:
  • Assists with the establishment and implementation of admission criteria and oversee the campus admission and application process, manage application materials.
  • Oversees application processing for undergraduates and graduate students.
  • Participates in CON Applicant review process.
  • Ensures application mailings or distribution.
  • Creates and maintains a current listing of admitted students.

Recruiting:
  • Maintains advising guides and transfer information for other schools and software/transferology.
  • Works with potential applicants for pre-requisite completion via phone, email, meeting, and meets with drop-in inquiries.
  • Conducts Information Sessions and How to Apply Sessions.
  • Works with University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus units to secure non-nursing prerequisite courses and maintains updated information regarding non-nursing course schedules for advisors.
  • Processes course approvals for transfer courses.
  • Manages Urbana campus activities related to recruitment activities and strategies and materials with UIC CON OAESS and seeks out and attends recruitment activities, college fairs, etc.

Program Support:
  • Acts as point of contact with campus, agency and university departments, external colleges, and universities, and represents the senior administrator on various committees.
  • Coordinate academic events and serves on all committees as assigned.
  • Coordinates and plans Career Fair, Open Houses, and other student-focused events.
  • Supports Student committees as an advisor as assigned.
  • Manages student organization activities for student groups.
  • Serves on the Admissions and Academic Standards committees, and other committees as assigned.
  • Participates in the planning of student pinning ceremonies and all college events.
  • Provides support to faculty for instructional needs and provide support to the simulation center for ordering equipment and supplies, inventory, set-up, and scheduling.
  • Provides office support, including but not limited to test/assignment proctoring.
  • Performs other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Master's degree.
