Overview

This is a hybrid role with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office located in New York City, Morristown, New Jersey, Boston, Massachussetts or Baltimore, Maryland.

The Director, Underwriter - Healthcare provides strategic leadership and direction to Healthcare Underwriting. Manages the credit decision process for Healthcare loans ensuring accuracy and adherence to service level agreements. Manages and directs the proper structure of approved and conditioned credits to meet the Bank's goals of generating high-quality earning assets. Provides oversight and makes decisions on complex loans and credit requests to ensure team activities maximize revenue while minimizing risk.


Responsibilities

  • Underwriting Oversight - Provides guidance and expertise to the Healthcare underwriting and approval process. Ensures that internal credit quality standards, lending targets, and compliance requirements are met. Handles credit denial override requests, decisions credit on loans, and provides oversight to highly complex loan requests. Identifies inefficiencies, voids, or deficits in lending processes, and develops appropriate solutions. Supports the Bank's safety and soundness objectives.
  • Risk Mitigation - Responsible for risk mitigation efforts at loan origination effective use of data models and credit scoring, and ensuring appropriate loan collateralization. Reviews credit scoring, underwriting, and underwriting exceptions for potential exposures. Monitors pricing guidelines and risk tolerance correlations and maintains awareness of significant geographic, sector or product concentrations. Contributes information to help confirm monthly allocations to the Loan Loss Reserve.
  • Business Support - Ensures the lending division is positioned competitively within the market and against emerging technological advances and industry changes. Identifies cross-sales opportunities for new and existing relationships based on analysis activities. Assists in the development, interpretation, and implementation of credit policies and procedures.
  • Managerial Functions - Leads a credit underwriting and analysis team. Establishes and monitors expectations to achieve company and department goals. Makes appropriate changes to team policies, procedures, and efficiencies in order to meet objectives. Manages the performance, training, and evaluation of assigned staff.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience in Credit analysis, underwriting or Risk Management OR High School Diploma or GED and 12 years of experience in Credit analysis, underwriting or Risk Management

Preferred

  • Master's Degree (MBA) or equivalent, CPA
  • 3 years of experience with assessing Senior Housing (including new construction) and Skilled Nursing transactions
  • 3 years of experience with structuring Working Capital Credit Facility/ABL in Healthcare Finance
  • Completion of a formal credit training program

If hired in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts or Maryland the base pay for this position is generally between $180,000.00 and $225,000.00. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
