Overview

The Systems Manager Network & Security Infrastructure is responsible for the operational management, reliability, and security of Con Edisons enterprise network and firewall infrastructure. The position ensures continuous availability, resiliency, and protection of IT and OT network services that support field operations, control centers, customer systems, and corporate applications.

This role is accountable for daily operational performance, incident response, risk management, and delivery of infrastructure initiatives aligned with business and regulatory requirements. The Systems Manager operates with limited supervision and is accountable for both RUN operations and BUILD initiatives. The role provides technical leadership, operational oversight, and coordination across Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, IT Operations, vendors, and business stakeholders. The position may act as Incident Commander for high impact infrastructure or security incidents.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Manage daily operations and availability of enterprise network and firewall infrastructure supporting critical business services
  • Ensure network and security platforms meet service levels for availability, performance, and resiliency
  • Oversee monitoring, alerting, incident response, and problem management activities
  • Serve as Incident Commander for P2 incidents and support escalation and coordination for P1 incidents in accordance with Con Edison incident management procedures
  • Manage firewall, VPN, and network security platforms across corporate, data center, remote access, and hybrid environments
  • Ensure firewall rules, segmentation, and access controls comply with approved security standards
  • Lead infrastructure upgrades, technology refreshes, and security improvement initiatives
  • Review and approve technical designs, change plans, and implementation approaches for network security services
  • Support audits, compliance activities, governance forums, and operational risk mitigation
  • Provide leadership to engineers and analysts, including workload management, coaching, performance management and promoting automation and continuous improvement (may include matrixed or indirect staff)
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 8 years relevant full time work experience or
  • Master's Degree and a minimum of 6 years relevant full time work experience
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and a minimum of 8 years relevant full time work experience in enterprise network and/or infrastructure management, including security operations
Relevant Work Experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing mission critical IT infrastructure in a regulated environment, required
  • Strong understanding of network technologies, firewall platforms, and security controls, required
  • Demonstrated experience leading incidents, coordinating cross functional response, and managing operational risk, required
  • Prior experience in a utility, transportation, or highly regulated enterprise environment, preferred
  • Experience managing hybrid on prem and cloud based network infrastructure, preferred
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and defense in depth models, preferred
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and outsourced service providers, preferred

  • Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Preferred
  • Other: Relevant technical or management certifications Preferred
Physical Demands
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 40 pounds
  • Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach, and kneel throughout the workday
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel within Company service territory, as needed
