Job Title: Phlebotomist V

Location: 1301 Barbara Jordan Blvd., Suite 305, Austin, TX

Assignment Duration: 3 Months

Shift: 1st Shift, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Full-Time

Remote/Onsite: Onsite

Additionla Notes- Candidate MUST have Pediatric Experience


Summary

The Phlebotomist V will perform a range of clinical and administrative duties at a Children's Medical Center. The primary function is to assist with blood draws, specimen collection, and patient interactions while providing support at the front desk. This position requires pediatric experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to remain calm with all patient types, including hard-stick pediatric patients. The role may float between offices to provide coverage as needed.


Position Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and store specimens according to test orders and protocols.
  • Explain specimen collection procedures to patients clearly and courteously.
  • Ensure all requisition forms and patient information match specimens 100%.
  • Prepare and package specimens for transport while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Update patient information and maintain accurate maintenance and decontamination records.
  • Assist at the front desk with patient check-ins and greeter duties to enhance NPS scores.
  • Comply with OSHA, DEP, and hospital safety regulations.
  • Attend annual departmental trainings and perform other duties as required by workflow needs.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Pediatric experience is mandatory.
  • Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong people skills, calm disposition, and good communication abilities.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hard-stick patients.
  • Ability to work in a team setting with multiple office locations.


Compliance & Certifications

  • COVID vaccination required; Flu vaccine mandatory during flu season.
  • Color vision screening required.
  • Hepatitis B, TB, MMR, DAP, and Varicella immunizations as applicable.
