Job Title: Accounting Technician II

Location: Columbia, SC

Duration: 3 months with possible extension

Shift: ONSITE 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday


Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine to moderately complex clerical and accounting functions. Responsibilities include inventory balancing, reconciliations, generating refund request letters, processing disbursements and deposits, keying journal entries, and logging financial transactions in accordance with standard procedures. Supports one or more areas such as general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or related financial functions. May also complete special projects as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

30% - Financial Data Preparation


  • Prepares financial data related to refunds, invoices, recoupments, adjustments, cash disbursements, deposits, check voids and reissues, disputes, and correspondence
  • Ensures all data is complete, accurate, and organized for processing
  • Provides daily, weekly, and/or monthly summary reports of accounting activities to the supervisor


25% - Research & Issue Resolution

  • Conducts moderately complex research using financial systems, reports, and files to identify errors such as overpayments or misapplied funds
  • Resolves routine issues and escalates complex problems to higher-level staff


20% - Financial Calculations

  • Performs calculations to verify accuracy of bank deposits, receipts, disbursements, refunds, and other accounting-related transactions


20% - General Accounting Support

  • Supports accounting/finance operations including monitoring financial systems, keying journal entries, tracking funds, balancing accounts, maintaining inventory, and handling cash receipts
  • Assists less experienced accounting clerks as needed


5% - Correspondence & Refund Processing

  • Prepares and distributes correspondence related to monies due or incorrectly received
  • Processes and issues refunds as appropriate



Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Accounting or Finance OR Minimum 2 years of experience supporting accounting or financial operations
