A Brief Overview

The Director of Supply Chain Logistics will establish and enforce operational processes and policies across all logistics operations, supporting organizational priorities related to patient safety, value analysis, customer experience, and peripheral support services. This role leads staff and promotes best practices through daily operations, inventory control, process improvement initiatives, analytics, and the cultivation of a culture grounded in learning and operational excellence. The Director will implement and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) that support service quality, labor management, and continuous improvement, while establishing data- and outcome-driven methodologies for progressive performance enhancement. They will champion best practices and technology advancements that drive operational efficiency and financial stewardship. The role also requires building strong, professional relationships with Supply Chain colleagues, senior management, clinical and operational leaders, suppliers, and process partners. Oversight of all equipment disposition associated with capital projects is included in this responsibility.

The Director mentors and coaches direct reports to support staff development and ensure departmental objectives are achieved, particularly in the areas of customer service and best practices. They foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment within and across functional areas to deliver consistent excellence. Responsibilities also include assisting with the hiring, training, education, evaluation, discipline, and, when necessary, discharge of staff within the assigned Supply Chain departments.

In alignment with the AVP of Logistics, the Director manages third-party distribution agreements, including billing processes and daily operational oversight.

Work Location & Schedule

This is a hybrid, Monday-Friday role based at the Main Hospital location, offering a balanced schedule of three (3) days on site and two (2) remote days per week. Onsite presence is essential to support frontline operations, leadership engagement, and crossfunctional collaboration, while remote flexibility allows for focused strategic and administrative work.

What you will do

Strategy

  • Implements the strategic priorities relative to the Logistics Team as defined by Supply Chain Executive team at the assigned site. Works with AVP of Logistics to develop strategies specific to logistics operations.
  • Communicates the vision and priorities of the department within SC and to stakeholders.
  • Establishes metrics and goals to track progress of annual initiatives.
  • Serves as the Supply Chain Safety leader. On a rotational basis, manages the daily safety huddle and reports out on CHOP Daily Operations Huddle. Covers weekly on-call rotation to coordinate and respond to emergency events or operational issues and respond to leadership concerns.
  • Keeps abreast of industry best practices related to healthcare SC business practices, specifically inventory and logistics management.

Personal, Team & Strategic Growth

  • Facilitates development and achievement of professional and personal goals for supply chain staff and self. Enables employee development and growth by building out individual skills, knowledge, and experience to ensure team members can effectively help each other and maximize the team's collective ability to advance defined objectives.
  • Establishes and implements supply chain best practices. Defines policies and establishes benchmarks to compare across healthcare and industry.
  • Effectively recruits, orients, develops and retains a talented and diverse workforce in supply chain.
  • Partners with Human Resources to ensure all correct interpretation/implementation and application of Hospital Policies and Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Models CHOP's Care values. Holds self and others accountable for living these values.

Budget Formulation/Management

  • In collaboration with the AVP of Logistics, is responsible for forecasting, developing, and managing SC Logistics departmental budget to targeted expense for assigned site. Budgetary responsibility exceeds 2 million dollars.
  • Plans for and implements new business development or CHOP expansion.

Inventory Control

  • Responsible for implementing best practices to manage medical and surgical supplies in perpetual and non-perpetual environments, utilizing data for informed decisions on inventory usage and levels.
  • Ensures inventory adjustments are investigated and reconciled within ERP system
  • Ensures appropriateness and accuracy of inventory levels to avoid waste, obsolescence, loss due to expiration and to manage associated freight expenses.
  • Establishes departmental metrics and sponsors implementation of process improvements to positively impact the accuracy of inventory and the efficiency of operations.
  • Confers with Internal Audit to access and modify inventory practices to improve accuracy.

Materials Distribution Department

  • Manages the 3rd party distribution supplier at the assigned site to meet the established performance metrics, assuring the accurate and efficient distribution of supplies and equipment across the assigned site. Works with AVP of Logistics to establish annual performance metrics for the 3rd party supplier to optimize the contractual relationship. Ensures cleanliness of all supply locations according to regulations and CHOP policy.
  • Ensures the department is delivering service that meets clinical expectations for patient quality care and safety, in alignment with departmental administrative and fiscal goals.

Linen Services

  • Responsible and accountable to manage the Lines Services team at assigned site to achieve established performance metrics. Responsible for managing linen expenses at assigned site
  • Ensures the department is delivering service that meets clinical expectations for patient quality care and safety, as well as ensuring the department meets all administrative fiscal goals and responsibilities.
  • Enforces industry trends related to linen, textiles and related laundry and infection control practices
  • Can serve as SME for linen and textile decisions
  • Manages the laundry services supplier at the assigned site to meet the established performance metrics. Works with AVP of Logistics to establish annual performance metrics for the laundry services supplier to optimize the contractual relationship.
  • Facilitates development and achievement of professional and personal goals for supply chain staff and self. Enables employee development and growth by building out individual skills, knowledge, and experience to ensure team members can effectively help each other and maximize the team's collective ability to advance defined objectives.

Mailroom

  • Responsible and accountable to manage the Mailroom team at assigned site to achieve established performance metrics.
  • Ensures optimal efficiency for internal mail distribution and postage expenses.
  • Patient Equipment and Sleep Surface Management
  • Responsible to meet the equipment needs assigned site for patient care equipment, monitoring equipment and sleep surfaces.
  • Provides oversight and direction to onsite 3rd party supplier for the decontamination of equipment, assuring all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Manages the equipment rental program as required to meet demands of high census.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Supply Chain, Finance, Business or similar field of study - Required
  • Master's Degree Supply Chain, Finance, Business or similar field of study - Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least six (6) years Progressive operations management responsibility in Supply Chain, Logistics or related field, preferably in a hospital or healthcare environment - Required
  • At least three (3) years Previous experience in lean methodologies or process improvement frameworks - Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Deep understanding of supply chain operations specifically inventory & logistics. (Preferred proficiency)
  • Procurement, contracting and sterile processing operations knowledge would be beneficial. (Preferred proficiency)
  • Strong knowledge of Supply Chain technology, including Enterprise Resource Planning, point of use and, warehouse management systems. (Preferred proficiency)
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of Business Intelligence software capabilities (Required proficiency)
  • Excellent communication skills at multiple levels of the enterprise. Ability to prepare and present presentations and financial analysis to senior leaders. (Required proficiency)
  • Able to motivate and facilitate teams to successful resolution of challenging issues. (Required proficiency)
  • Project management skills, knowledge, and experience. Ability to effectively interact and collaborate successfully with people of all levels. (Required proficiency)
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills; detail oriented and hands-on performer. Experience leading cross functional teams in complex activities across departmental and entity boundaries. (Required proficiency)
  • Change management expertise - black belt or similar certification preferred. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to establish and maintain a high level of stakeholder trust and confidence (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to delegate, monitor, and direct work effort and requirements. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Project Management Certification (PMP) - Project Management Institute (PMI) or other accredited organizations - - Preferred or
