Maintenance Mechanic Responsible for the installation, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of production manufacturing equipment, machinery, and facilities. This role performs intermediate-level maintenance tasks, supports preventive maintenance activities, and works independently on more complex assignments while maintaining compliance with established safety procedures, standards, and company policies. Functions and Responsibilities
- Install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain production manufacturing equipment, machinery, and facilities.
- Inspect equipment for proper functioning and perform preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications and established schedules.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic controls-related equipment malfunctions and make repairs or adjustments efficiently.
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests to minimize equipment downtime.
- Assist with installation, commissioning, modification, and upgrade of equipment and machinery to meet operational requirements.
- Follow written instructions, sketches, technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and other documents.
- Use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and specialized maintenance tools as required.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections; use CMMS or other systems to track maintenance requests and equipment status.
- Collaborate effectively with technicians, engineers, and operations personnel to identify, schedule, and complete repairs, maintenance activities, and project work.
- Provide guidance, support, and training to less experienced maintenance technicians as needed.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance equipment performance and reduce downtime.
- Perform all work in accordance with established standards, safety procedures, codes, regulations, and company policies, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out requirements.
- Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and conduct work in a manner that supports a safe work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Skills, and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Additional vocational training, formal technical training, apprenticeship, or certification in a related field such as mechanical, facilities maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, or hydraulic systems is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Two to five years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred, with demonstrated experience in mechanical and electrical systems.
- Must have or be able to obtain forklift certification and be proficient with moving large equipment.
- Scissor lift certification is preferred or may be required based on business needs.
- General knowledge of equipment- and facility-related codes and regulations is required.
- Knowledge of shop math and precision measuring equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, sketches, and maintenance documents.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with PLCs and maintaining or troubleshooting complex manufacturing equipment preferred.
- Experience with vacuum furnaces, CNC equipment, X-ray systems, pyrometry, rigging, overhead cranes, and jib cranes preferred.
- Basic computer skills and CMMS experience preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, teamwork, and communication skills.
Working Conditions
- Use of protective clothing, goggles, respirators, and other PPE may be required to prevent injury.
- Exposure to an industrial or manufacturing environment, including machinery noise, chemicals, confined spaces, heights, and fluctuating temperatures.
- Full-time position with potential for overtime, on-call duty, or shift work based on operational needs.
Physical Requirements
- This position requires a high physical workload and frequent movement of the whole body.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment; may require lifting up to 50-75 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, reach, and handle materials for extended periods.
- Ability to work in various environments, including at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors.
- Ability to meet vision and respirator requirements, if applicable.
- A pre-employment occupational health assessment may be required to determine whether candidates can perform the essential physical requirements of the role.
