The University of Virginia's number one ranked Department of Student Health and Wellness (SHW)provides a comprehensive range of medical, mental health, well-being, and disability support services to all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. The University of Virginia's Counseling and Psychological (CAPS), a unit within the Department of Student Health and Wellness, is seeking a part-time 0.8 FTE certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Psychiatric nurse practitioners are specialized providers of mental health care who can prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications. The nurse practitioner hired for this position will be expected to provide high quality, evidence-based psychiatric care to University of Virginia students in compliance with the medical staff bylaws of the Department of SHW. Excellent clinical and interpersonal skills are required. The individual must show demonstrated competency in the areas of psychiatric diagnostic evaluation; medication evaluation; ongoing medication prescribing and monitoring; provision of comprehensive psychiatric care including supportive psychotherapy, psychoeducation, risk assessment, crisis management, case management, clinical consultation, collaborative co-treatment with multidisciplinary mental health clinicians, and ethical decision-making. The ability to ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements and provide the highest quality psychiatric care to patients is essential. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1. Provide Psychiatric Assessment and Treatment
2.Medical Record Management, Department Administrative Functions, and Provision of Clinical Training
3.Work Collaboratively with CAPS and other SHW Professionals
4. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
5. Perform all duties in accordance with the Clinical Staff Bylaws, policies, and procedures. 6. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications:
The salary range for this position is commensurate with qualifications and experience. About the Position The preferred deadline for applications is May 1, 2026.
