Overview

We are seeking experienced Field Service Technician (Smart Hands) to support ongoing network infrastructure upgrades at USC. This role focuses on hands-on installation and support of network switches as part of a large-scale Device-as-a-Service (DaaS) initiative. Work is primarily onsite across multiple USC campus locations and will require flexibility for off-hours scheduling.

This is an active, high-priority need with work expected to continue through the end of the year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform switch installations and cutovers in a campus environment
  • Provide Smart Hands support for network deployment activities
  • Assist with cable management and physical equipment setup
  • Conduct basic site assessments as needed
  • Work alongside a second technician on installation jobs (2-person teams)
  • Execute tasks with a focus on accuracy, speed, and minimal disruption to operations


Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in field service, network installation, or Smart Hands support
  • Hands-on experience with:

    • Network switch installations
    • Cable management
    • Onsite IT hardware support


  • Ability to follow structured deployment instructions with minimal supervision
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between USC campus sites
  • Strong punctuality and dependability


Preferred Qualifications

  • IT/network certifications (CompTIA Network+, Cisco, etc.) - not required
  • Prior experience in higher education or large campus environments
  • Experience supporting high-volume network deployments


Schedule & Availability

  • Must be highly flexible with scheduling
  • Work occurs primarily outside standard business hours, including:

    • Evenings
    • Overnight shifts
    • Early mornings (as early as 5-6 AM)


  • Schedule designed to avoid disruption to USC operations


Additional Details

  • Role supports ongoing network modernization efforts (switches + APs)
  • High-volume switch cutover work expected throughout the year
