The MAA is currently accepting applications for the position of Accountant (Administrator I) within the Office of Finance at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport).

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for all collection activities, including investigating discrepancies and resolving outstanding issues by issuing customer refunds for overpayments.
  • Conducting follow-up inquiries, negotiated with customers on past-due accounts, maintained accurate records of cash receipts, and referred delinquent accounts to the Maryland Central Collection Unit for further collection actions.
  • Managing incoming payments for the Maryland Aviation Administration, including depositing funds and recording accurate journal entries in the State accounting Financial Management information System (FMIS,) MDOT Standard Accounting and Reporting System (MSTARS) and billing Budget Reporting and Analysis Support System (BRASS) systems.
  • Conducting daily comparisons, monitoring, and reconciliation of deposit source documents (ACH and federal wires), journal entries, and related transactions by reviewing the Daily History Detail Report (DAFR2261), Daily Transaction Register (DAFR7200), and Daily Interface Report (DAFR2271) to identify discrepancies and ensure alignment between the Financial Management Information System (FMIS) and the Maryland Department of Transportation Standard Accounting and Reporting System(MSTARS)
  • Generating monthly recurring and ad hoc invoices and served as backup for preparing landing and concession invoices.
  • Distributing invoices to customers daily and processed credit memos as needed.
  • Reconciling Minimum Annual Guarantee (MAG) payments by comparing customer-reported and remitted amounts to independent CPA reports.
  • Preparing customer revenue reports and performing detailed reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Participate in the month-end and year-end closing processes.

This position is located at BWI Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County, MD.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work. *One year of experience performing accounts receivable, collections, and financial reconciliation work, including investigating discrepancies, processing payments, reconciling financial transactions, and generating invoices using Financial Information System (FMIS), or related systems.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute for the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

3. Candidates may substitute for the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.


Licenses & Certifications

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
