This role is responsible for actively leveraging tax technology, automation, and data analytics to improve tax compliance accuracy, scalability, and operational efficiency. The position plays a key role in bridging expertise in a variety of different tax types / jurisdictions and enterprise systems, supporting Meijer's long term transformation of the tax function and enabling proactive compliance, audit readiness, and business growth.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Provide support for the preparation and/or review of federal, state and local tax returns, ensuring timely and accurate filings, payments, and balance sheet reconciliations across multiple jurisdictions to minimize audit exposure.
  • Serve as a technologyenabled tax professional, leveraging existing tax systems, data tools, and automation platforms to reduce manual effort and improve data quality throughout the compliance lifecycle.
  • Analyze large volumes of transactional data from multiple source systems (e.g., POS, SAP, digital platforms) to validate tax outcomes, identify anomalies, and recommend systemic fixes rather than onetime corrections.
  • Actively participate in process improvement and automation initiatives, collaborating with tax technology resources to streamline taxability logic, data feeds, and return workflows.
  • Maintain automation responsibility with an emphasis on improving upstream data governance and reducing downstream corrections.
  • Perform tax research to support compliance positions, audit responses, and business initiatives, translating technical tax requirements into clear operational and systembased solutions.
  • Support transaction tax audits by driving data gathering, reconciliation, and analytical support, with a focus on reusable audit models, standardized documentation, and improved readiness.
  • Stay current on evolving tax laws and regulations, assessing not only the legal impact but also the system and process implications, and partnering with stakeholders to implement sustainable solutions.
  • Build strong partnerships with crossfunctional teams including Finance, IT, Digital, Retail Operations, and Compliance to ensure tax requirements are embedded early in new initiatives and system changes.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of tax or accounting experience, preferably in a highvolume, multistate environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Alteryx, Microsoft Excel & Copilot, and other data tools, with demonstrated ability to analyze large datasets and identify automation or standardization opportunities.
  • Familiarity with enterprise ERP systems, tax engines, and UiPath.
  • Comfort operating in a technologydriven, rapidly changing environment, where system enhancements, new business initiatives, and legislative changes require adaptable tax solutions.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with the ability to resolve moderately complex issues through structured problemsolving.
  • A mindset oriented toward continuous improvement, automation, and longterm sustainability of tax processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate between technical tax concepts, data/system implications, and business needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate crossfunctionally and contribute to broader operational improvement efforts.
