What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Maintenance and Reliability Manager who will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational availability of our advanced 4680 battery cell manufacturing equipment. You will lead all facets of the new 24/7 critical production line equipment and maintenance teams, as well as direct the Electrode Manufacturing Reliability Engineer, the Planning and Scheduling team, and the Equipment Maintenance Design Lab. You will build upon previous successes and elevate our Equipment Maintenance and Reliability organization by collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve issues impacting part quality, production efficiency, ergonomics, equipment maintenance, asset reliability, and long-term performance.
What You'll Do
- Direct Leadership and Team Management: Oversee 4 maintenance crews, manpower planning, team training, and foster a reliability-focused culture
- Maintenance Strategy and Optimization: Develop predictive/preventative maintenance programs (thermography, vibration analysis, IoT) and optimize preventative maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and improve overall equipment effectiveness
- Cross-Functional Collaboration and Problem Solving: Lead root cause failure analysis initiatives, collaborate with Production/Engineering teams, and drive continuous improvement to increase mean time between failures and eliminate failures
- Process and Procedure Development: Create standards, procedures, and documentation for equipment changes, upgrades, and maintenance workflows
- Budget and Resource Management: Support budgeting, cost reduction via reliability gains, and manage spare parts inventory, contractor work, and internal projects
- Performance Monitoring and Key Performance Indicators: Track reliability metrics, maintenance effectiveness, and cost performance to ensure operational efficiency
- Technology and Innovation Adoption: Implement IoT solutions, condition monitoring tools, and new technologies to enhance maintenance capabilities
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience; Certified Reliability Engineer / Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional preferred
- Leadership and Experience: 7 plus years in production maintenance management with progressive leadership, 5 plus years in reliability engineering, and hands-on troubleshooting in industrial environments
- Reliability and Maintenance Expertise: Proven skills in breakdown management, total productive maintenance / preventative maintenance programs, spare parts management, root cause failure analysis, overall equipment effectiveness improvement, mean time between failures optimization, and predictive maintenance (thermography, vibration analysis, IoT)
- Technical and Process Proficiency: Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma, computerized maintenance management systems/enterprise resource planning systems, and expertise in chemical manufacturing, roll winding, lamination, hydraulics, and rotating equipment
- Team Development: Strong background in team building, technical training, mentoring, and succession planning
- Project and Analytical Skills: Experience managing equipment projects (installation, overhaul) and using analytical tools (Minitab/JMP) for data-driven decisions
- Operational Excellence: Commitment to safety, reliability, and cross-functional collaboration to achieve operational efficiency
