What to Expect
The Tesla Solar Products team is seeking a Sr. Modeling Engineerto build thermal, mechanical, and chemical models for the manufacturing processes needed in our effort to land 100GW of solar manufacturing in the United States. As part of this effort, we are looking for someone who will apply engineering fundamentals to help us identify process constraints, simplify our manufacturing workflows, and make us all more efficient in the broader effort to expand domestic solar cell manufacturing. This role will involve collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering, Tesla's infrastructure team, and third party equipment suppliers. Seniority levels considered include Sr. and Staff.

What You'll Do
  • Build and utilize first-principle analytical models to accelerate design decisions
  • Develop heat transfer andfluid flow models to simulate the growth of single-crystal silicon ingots
  • Model gas flows, plasma dynamics, and film growth of deposition reactors used in solar cell processing
  • Simulate the dynamics of laser processing on the modification of solar cell component films
  • Collaborate with engineering and facilities teams to simulate the impact of process changes on the design of our solar factories

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of experience in Solar or Semiconductor manufacturing industries
  • Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
  • CFD Modeling experience and familiarity with CFD tools such as Star-CCM+ or Ansys Fluent
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and CAD software
  • Demonstrable motivation and ability to solve novel, difficult thermal design problems
  • Passion for renewable energy
  • Demonstrated work ethic, integrity, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Willing to travel up to 30%

    Expected Compensation
    $130,400 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
