CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Platform Engineering and Automation
- Design, build, and maintain scalable CI/CD pipelines that support automated build, test, and deployment workflows using GitLab CI/CD and standardized Git workflows.
- Develop and maintain reusable pipeline templates, infrastructure modules, and automation patterns that enable consistent and efficient delivery across teams.
- Continuously improve deployment speed, reliability, and quality through automation and tooling enhancements.
Cloud Infrastructure and Kubernetes Operations
- Design, provision, and manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), with a primary focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Deploy, operate, and maintain Kubernetes clusters, particularly Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), ensuring high availability, scalability, and resilience.
- Package and manage Kubernetes applications using Helm charts and established deployment standards.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to support cloud-native application architectures and runtime requirements.
Reliability, Monitoring, and Incident Response
- Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure system performance, availability, and operational visibility (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring).
- Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis to restore service and prevent recurrence.
- Contribute to fault-tolerant and resilient system designs that support production reliability and operational excellence.
Security and Compliance Enablement
- Apply secure-by-design principles across CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure, and Kubernetes environments, including secrets management, access controls, and least-privilege IAM.
- Collaborate with security and platform stakeholders to integrate vulnerability scanning, configuration hardening, and compliance requirements into delivery workflows.
- Support organizational security, audit, and compliance initiatives by ensuring infrastructure and deployment processes are auditable, repeatable, and well-documented.
Collaboration and Documentation
- Work closely with software engineers, QA, and platform stakeholders to understand delivery needs and remove friction from the development lifecycle.
- Document infrastructure designs, deployment patterns, operational procedures, and architectural decisions to support knowledge sharing and long-term maintainability.
- Promote DevOps best practices, automation-first thinking, and continuous improvement across engineering teams.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This role does not have direct reports but is expected to provide technical leadership, guidance, and enablement across multiple engineering teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field required; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure roles supporting production systems.
- Experience operating cloud-native environments and supporting modern software delivery pipelines.
Knowledge / Skill Requirements
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, preferably Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
- Strong proficiency with Linux system administration and troubleshooting.
- Experience managing infrastructure using Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools.
- Experience packaging and deploying applications using Helm.
- Strong experience with GitLab, including CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, with preference for Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as Python or Go; experience with Node.js is a plus.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Cloud Logging, and Cloud Monitoring.
- Familiarity with distributed tracing tools such as Google Cloud Trace.
- Experience supporting security, compliance, or regulated environments.
- Prior experience working in agile or product-driven development environments.
- Relevant cloud or Kubernetes certifications (e.g., Google Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, CKA) are a plus.
