Clinical Research Assistant - IBD Center

Position Summary:
The Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program at Boston Children's Hospital (BCH) is seeking a highly motivated individual to support clinical research, quality improvement (QI), and data-driven program development within a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.

This role builds upon our longstanding participation in national IBD QI collaboratives (ImproveCareNow) and expands to include advanced use of EPIC and healthcare data systems. ImproveCareNow is a national collaborative QI network, utilizing a registry designed to study, understand, and improve patient care of children with IBD, a collection of chronic diseases that cause inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. This position will play a central role in extracting, analyzing, and translating clinical data into the improvement of patient care and outcomes.

Responsibilities span many aspects of study design and network collaboration and may include coordinating the collection of data and informed consent, interacting with the Institutional Review Board (IRB), preparing internal presentations, contributing to discussions within BCH and the national QI network, and effectively gathering, entering, and analyzing accurate data from patient charts. The coordinator will utilize tools within the electronic medical record (EPIC) to develop and query an internal IBD registry to study and improve quality of care of IBD patients locally as well. The work for this project takes place in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with opportunities to interact and collaborate with many different types of providers and other staff involved in healthcare, both locally and nationally.

The selected candidate must be highly motivated, well-organized, enthusiastic, and professional. The candidate must also be independent, efficient, and have exceptional interpersonal skills, as interaction with patients, families, medical staff, and other researchers is necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate data collection from clinic visits
• Extract patient information from electronic health record (EPIC)
• Manage data entry and maintenance of study records
• Develop EPIC tools proficiency, improve EPIC-based reports and workflows
• Support and facilitate QI initiatives (prepare reports, develop processes, track clinical outcomes and utilize QI tools)
• Assist in IRB submissions, regulatory documentation, and protocol development
• Participate in patient recruitment
• Serve as a key liaison among physicians, care providers, clinical support staff, research staff, QI consultants and other collaborators
• Contribute to teamwork within/between departments and organizations
• Represent the team on webinars and at bi-annual national network conferences
• Prepare agendas and run weekly project team meetings
• Communicate findings clearly through presentations, written reports, and data visualization

Minimum Qualifications:

• Critical attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong writing and analytical skills
• Computer skills required (i.e. fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Biostatistical skills and knowledge of basic data management software (REDCap, SPSS) are a plus
• Experience using EPIC and EPIC tools to analyze patient data and support study initiatives is a plus
• Commitment: 2 years strongly preferred; would consider 1 year for a qualified candidate
• Start date in Summer 2026

Education:

• Bachelor's degree is required. Preferably in biological, social, or health sciences, or related field
