You will be instrumental in driving material innovation, contributing directly to the success and visual identity of groundbreaking products. **Responsibilities:** * Implement and execute innovative material design solutions for seasonal projects, aligning with creative direction and project briefs.
* Contribute to the development of visually appealing and high-performing materials across various product categories.
* Apply a blend of artistic skills and technical knowledge to enhance product aesthetics and functionality.
* Collaborate closely with cross-functional project teams to understand design requirements and functional specifications.
* Research, select, and evaluate materials based on properties, durability, and aesthetic qualities.
* Utilize advanced design software and tools to create, refine, and visualize material concepts.
* Develop prototypes and samples to rigorously test and validate visual and tactile material aspects.
* Partner with color scientists and texture specialists to ensure accurate color matching and texture replication, considering environmental and lighting impacts.
* Integrate materials seamlessly into overall product designs, accounting for form, function, and manufacturing processes.
* Stay informed on sustainable and eco-friendly material innovations, integrating responsible options and recommending alternatives.
* Conduct performance, durability, and safety tests, implementing quality control measures for material consistency.
* Maintain detailed records of material specifications, design processes, and testing results for internal reference and compliance.
* Engage with material suppliers and manufacturers, evaluating samples, negotiating terms, and ensuring quality standards are met.
* Monitor design trends and emerging materials, providing insights that elevate design approaches and projects.
* Create original product designs or refresh existing ones, working under design leadership.
* Contribute to the entire creative process, from exploration and feedback integration to tech pack creation and factory communication.
* Present design concepts effectively to both internal and external audiences. **Required Qualifications:** * Bachelor's Degree in Design, Materials Science, or a related field, OR equivalent practical experience (e.g., Master's degree with 0-3 years, Associate's degree with 1-3 years, High School diploma with 3-5 years).
* Minimum of 2-4 years of directly relevant experience in materials design or a related creative field.
* Proven digital design acumen, proficient with industry-standard design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
* Demonstrated understanding of the creative process, including exploration, feedback incorporation, and design iteration.
* Strong understanding of product construction and the impact of material choices on overall design and performance.
* Basic knowledge of various material types and their applications.
* Ability to collaborate effectively and build strong interpersonal connections within design and adjacent functions. **Preferred Qualifications:** * Advanced degree (e.g., BA/BFA/MA/MFA) in a design-related discipline.
* 1-4 years of preferred design experience.
* Knowledge and experience with advanced digital tools and 3D design skills.
